The Panthers and the Saints have shown interest in many of the same players this last year and a half since Joe Brady was hired as offensive coordinator. Brady previously served as an assistant for Sean Payton and runs a similar scheme, so it’s natural that their interests collide – and they certainly have.

Last year there was the whole Tommy Stevens saga. Additionally, the Panthers have brought in a number of former Saints players like Tommylee Lewis, Keith Kirkwood and Teddy Bridgewater. A couple months ago the Saints poached long-time Panthers fullback Alex Armah, signing him to a one-year deal.

The intrigue continued in the 2021 NFL draft, where apparently both teams had their eye on LSU wide receiver Terrace Marshall. According to Darin Gantt at the team website, the Panthers were tipped off via phone call that New Orleans was targetting Marshall with the No. 60 overall pick. The Panthers changed course and decided to snag Marshall one spot earlier.

“(BYU left tackle Brady Christensen) was probably going to be the guy at 59, and there was a deal cooking that could have moved them back on the clock within a few spots to take LSU wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr.. Marshall was quickly becoming one of those guys whose name was beginning to stick out on the board, with not much space above him, but a lot of space below at his position. He was becoming a value guy. Then someone got a call that the Saints were about to take Marshall 60th overall, and the Panthers shifted gears, taking Marshall in the 59th spot instead.”

- ADVERTISEMENT -That’s a nice victory for the Panthers over the Saints, who have won four straight and eight of the last nine meetings between these teams.

As for Marshall, we’re projecting he will be the WR3 on the roster behind D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson. During his college career, Marshall lined up both outside and in the slot. Tight end Dan Arnold should offer competition, but it’s not hard to imagine Marshall becoming Sam Darnold’s go-to option in the red zone once he’s up to speed.

Here are a few comments from an Aints fan about us after getting Marshall.

"Sorry, but if the Panthers are changing their opinions on who they should draft based on who they think we want to draft,
then Panthers fans should be very concerned about why their team has so little confidence in their own scouting department."

"Coach is playing 4D chess with the panthers. He had the janitor leak the info to the window cleaning lady in Carolina, who then told the IT guy,
that the Saints wanted Marshall, when, in fact, he knew that Carolina wanted Werner as the "new Luke Kuechly".
The IT guy then changed the excel file with the Panthers draft board, moving Marshall, who was in a 3rd round bubble, to the 2nd round."

What??????? That doesn't make any sense. Someone from the Saints war room called us to tell tip us off on their pick? No that didn't happen. So who else outside the war room would know who they were taking? This story is VERY fishy.

It wasn't someone from the Saints war room..

Scouts, reporters and insiders extensively discuss with each other what's going on behind the scenes during the draft.

How do you think picks get tipped?

    • Went to school in MD when this came out. Dance floor got CRAZY when this joint came on!
    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks seem to be Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team). Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
