Panthers Blew the Offseason?

"The Carolina Panthers appeared to have everything going for them this offseason: plenty of cap space, a stable stopgap veteran quarterback, a premium draft pick to use toward the long-term future under center and offensive coordinator Joe Brady, the architect of Joe Burrow's historic run at LSU.

Instead, Carolina said "no thanks" to a quarterback and the offensive line with the eighth overall selection, traded for a failed first-rounder (Sam Darnold) and dealt its veteran stopgap (Teddy Bridgewater)

The keys to the offense now belong to a career 59.8 percent passer with a 45-39 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Nobody would argue the New York Jets were a stable developmental environment for the 2018 third overall pick, so maybe the Panthers can help him turn his career around. But his completion rate is a major red flag.

Darnold secured, the Panthers passed on a quarterback in the first round, taking cornerback Jaycee Horn at No. 8. They then traded down twice in the second round and ultimately missed out on offensive line talent that could've helped fix a unit that allowed 36 sacks last year.

Sprinkle in the fact that Carolina also lost a weapon like Curtis Samuel, and the organization didn't exactly do enough to create an encouraging developmental situation for Darnold. It could hurt the Panthers immediately and far into the future."

Random year. The rules changes have distorted the game.

I grew up in Pittsburgh in the 1970s. It’s definitely not the same. Then 1978. And they changed the rules in 2003 as well. And being able to just throw the ball away for the QB should get more attention as a factor.

I think its the Bleacher Report, so it automatically goes in the "LOL" category.

Yeah I mean I don't agree with anything they wrote in this piece but I'm quickly figuring out what the folks on here think of BR lol

Sounds like the writer doesn't pay attention past the first round...?

When i saw this was an article that appeared in the "Bleacher Report" I stopped reading.

By the time I finished the blurb my head had cocked so far to one side I looked like a confused dog.  Then I saw the the link and relief washed over me.

Now why don't you share with the gang what your bitch with Bleacher Report is, I see more facts here than not.  We may have stumbled on an acorn at the bottom of the 2nd round but still missed out on solid OL and S picks that were REAL NEEDS thanks to our new GMs lack of experience drafting high. What's said all makes perfect sense.

    • While I have a chance to be overly excited I'll take that opportunity. The team will determine what happens with that. It's been a while since we've had much to be excited about, I'd say let's just embrace it and see how it unfolds.
    • Knowns: top 10 o line 2 proven, quality RBs 2 proven, WRs who get open and catch everything. 2 others who show a lot of ‘potential’ A QB who improved greatly in the last few games of the season, topped off by putting up a 40 burger win in OT in this franchise’s kryptonite house. What will transpire this season is yet to be seen.  defense has far less proven. 2  very good CBs, a stud DT (coming off a major injury) and the rest is, again, ‘potential.’ A DC that is essentially starting the season on the hot seat.  This is not 2003, but it could be good. 2003 was the most stacked roster from top to bottom that this team has ever had. This squad finished on a big upswing, yes, but we’ll see.  I think it all comes down to how spiked your hopium is. The running game is where it is for the team. This is not a defense that will win 3 points games. Just not. To win, this team will have to dominate TOP and come up with 2+ more 3rd down stops each game. Again, do-able and should be good for at least a 7 point differential in our favor, ‘hopefully.’  I will say that it is nice seeing talent that actually belongs in the NFL on our roster.
    • Say what you want, but last year Bryce gave Carolina the best QB-play we've seen a very long time. A very long time. Often with rookies at WR and TE, and a RB not known for his receiving abilities. There is much reason for optimism with added weapons, and consistency/ chemistry on the offensive line and coaching staff. Now if the defense can get to average instead of a heaping lump of dog doo, this team should win a lot more games. This season is a turn the corner season. Next season is the year to press the accelerator to the floor.
