Interesting notes from The Athletic Bob McGinn's article

This is from his famous pre-draft player rating article: https://theathletic.com/2551187/2021/04/29/nfl-draft-scouts-poll-best-overall-player-favorite-guy-to-scout/

- Brady Christensen is listen as a OG“He had the big workout, but you don’t see (his) athletic ability on the field,” another scout said. “He is strictly an in-line guy who can’t adjust. No bend. Slow and wide with his hands, so guys get into his chest. Gives you good enough effort.”

“Short-armed, played like it,” a third scout said. “I moved him to guard. In a zone-dominant offense, he could develop into a potentially solid starter. He looks light. Quick feet.”

Daviyon Nixon, Iowa (6-foot-3, 313, 4.89, Round 3 through 6😞 Executives from three teams said he had been removed from their draft boards because of off-field issues. Four other teams indicated they had modest to major concerns

What exactly are Daviyon's off the field issues? The learning disability?

It's not great but he's been cleared. Let's just say if he's cleared he is top 50 if he is not cleared could be considered undraftable by many teams.

What does that even mean?

Complaints of sexual harassment or sexual violence.

That's what it means, but that being said, this is the first time I've heard even a sniff of that.

I researched these supposed off-field issues, and I have yet to find anything that serious. It's gotta be something though I suppose, but wtf it is, it's crazy hard to find and confirm.

Whatever it is, they definitely have kept it hushed.

Luke Kuechly

You must not remember that draft class. There was a lot of criticism about Luke basically just piling up stats by making tackles downfield because the BC defense was terrible and jumping on the pile to get credit for assisted tackles. There were quite a few people who thought his stats were inflated and he wasn't as good as the stat sheet implied. They were wrong, but the criticisms weren't completely unfounded at the time.

No I remember it very good. Panthers fans didn’t like the pick “only” because we had Jon Beason already.

No, you clearly don't. He was an elite prospect but he wasn't perfect and the criticisms came from pundits who weren't Panthers fans before the Panthers drafted him.

Or... you're just trolling. Since that's pretty much all you do, that's probably the most likely answer.

    • I'm OK with picking up the 5th year option (mostly because there aren't any clear long-term better options likely to be available in the offseason) but I need to see a lot more consistency before I'd support a full-on contract extension.
    • Yall are a little unrealistic. This is the first time in his 3 years that this QB has had a roster they could actuallyt win with - and we're in the playoffs. No one to throw to and the worst interior oline this franchise has ever fielded as a rookie. Defense was meh but would get worse. Second season Derrick Brown gets injured for the year in the first game and we march out the worst run defense (and possibly overall defense) in the history of the NFL. So many on here talking about an average QB would have this team with 12+ wins. You're delusional. How many games would we have won last season with just an average defense? KC, Philly and the first TB games off the top of my head. And that's with Thielen as your best receiver, rookie XL and rookie Coker. David Moore was the second best receiver last season. David Moore. This season the defense has improved but we're lining up too many rookies to make it to the playoffs on both sides of the ball, yet here we are. I ain't saying Bryce Young is the answer, but he has been a big part of some big wins this season. I'm hopeful that we'll see improvement when he has more time with this very young receiving corp. Remember, they're learnig how to be pros at the same time as we're going to the playoffs. The only veteran receiving  presence we've had this year is Tommy Tremble. We could actually see big improvement if David Moore comes back healthy. And that is saying alot.
    • Dowdle was fresh and it was early in  the year. It gets more difficult later in the year when teams improve, gel and get in their grooves. Hunt being out also plays into it but then when was the last time the Panthers adjusted well with personnel? Morris did some good but the QB situation was enough to sink both him and the GM. I'm more on the 'if they played Cousins they could have won the division this year' side. It would have been ugly but it was really low hanging fruit. Penix getting g I injured again and losing the division by a game was enough to know he isn't the guy IMO. 2 years is the standard and he still falls on the wrong side. Im surprised Lovie is back. I have zero faith he can build up any team. Did a decent job maintaining someone else's build but how he handled this year vs the last 2 was enough to give him a pink slip IMO.
