PFF says the Panthers have the 31st ranked OL corp in the NFL this year

That feels low. I don't expect our offensive line to improve by any large measure this year, lots of new faces, but I also don't believe we're that bad either.

I'd put the Panthers around the better worst 1/3rd of offensive lines at the moment.

I think we are a safe bet to rate very lowly before the season. We made some ho-hum signings in free agency and then we added predominately lower rated and lower drafted prospects.

We just have to see if we can get something out of this hodgepodge of underachieving and underrated guys.

I definitely don't have any butthurt about us being ranked very low. The majority of the line is in the "prove it" category. Completely understandable.

We just don't want that to be the case after Game 17.

I will say that although the quality of our starters may not be very good as a unit, I do think we won't have the same level of drop off as in 2020 when the injuries start piling up.

I wonder if that was a priority in this draft class, some type of durability measure based on number of starts/injuries etc.

The Panthers carried a large number of developmental projects on the practice squad last year, so it will be up  to the coaches to have some of these players ready for a back up role.

They'll want to bring back those practice squad lineman and give them an actual offseason and maybe some preseason games to see if any of them develop.

If those guys could become viable depth pieces, it would be a significant benefit to roster construction.

As they head into the start up of the 2021 season, the Panthers' offensive line, especially the left side is most certainly still under construction.

Right side alone should have the panthers in 20s. PFF has NO CLUE AT ALL what the responsibility, play call, or adjustments for OL each snap. Guessing on grading much like all of their grading. The same PFF that ranked Dallas #2 WR when they had the following receiving yards weeks 6-17=

247

59 (fuging RLOLs)

132 (LOL)

220

196

187 (jesus)

277

171 (my god are we sure these are not rushing stats??)

204

362(finally one close to league average)

199

"You see Bas PFF does this cause stats" bullshit. PFF - "Bills WR has 80.78 high point grade and its supported by his separation grade of 67.59." They also use their rookie ranking to project in these ranking as well, so its not stats or understanding their guess at grading. Im going to quit wasting my time with PFF since I understand its Bullshit. Same gos for trying to help others see the layers of fraud. PFF is only a tiny bit ok if you have no idea about the player or team. Like a person thats never followed any football and is getting fresh/green into NFL.

Wait, you agree that most of the OL is in the prove it category and hence why we are ranked low? What the heck are you arguing about? I said the same damn thing.

Did you read  his post.   Some are underachieving and some are UNDERATED.

The pff score is a wildly inaccurate guess in a spreadsheet.  They don't even know who to grade or how to rate the rookies.  At this point it has no bearing in reality.

JFC dude, PFF did a ranking based on who they thought were the current starters. That’s it. You are seriously acting like they beat your dog.

All of those players are ranked 63 or below, down to 48. Only Moton is considered an above average starter. The rest are all average or below average. It’s not a wild guess, it’s very straightforward based on who they think are our starters and if they plug in Miller or Daley or Erving or Scott it really doesn’t change much. They aren’t considering rookies if they’re not likely starters hence the Jets guy is used and Christensen is not.

Moton and Paradis are locked in starters. Erving and Elflein are the only other OL making more than $1.6M a year and the only non-rookie deal OL with more than a year on their contract. They are averaging $4.5-5M a year or 3-5 times the salary of the non-locks. They are pencilled in as starters on the left and Daley or Miller is pencilled in at RG. Tucker for the Jets was taken in the 1st, he’s an assumed starter. None of our rookies are yet. Again, really simple.

Also, LOL at hedging. Hedging what? Is there a bet on this. Would I somehow be wrong about something? This is a preseason ranking based on current starters. Their numbers are correct based on our current assumed starters. Answer this riddle? Is Christensen the starter? Could he be a starter later on in the season? Amazing how easy that is and amazing how worked up you are getting trying to act like this means something and is anything more than PFF taking last years rankings for the starting 5 and saying here’s what we think.

I gotta be honest thats a lot of words, sorry I'm not reading all that.

Under RR, I'd agree with you.  Vets and investments start.  Those days are gone.

Is Ian Thomas our starting Tight End because he's paid more than Dan Arnold and Tremble this year?

    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
    • Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
