There's a reason pussies don't play the game.

Maybe one of the reasons we can't tackle in games is because we have such a soft ass culture and don't hit in practice.

I swear liberals are turning this game into Soccer.

Every phucking player knows the risk the first time they put on a helmet at 7 years old.

Cutting this kid was the wrong message.

You want a 70% practice post it.

I want guys on our defense knocking the ever loving schit out of people.

Did you really just imply that 7yr olds understand CTE?

Pls crawl back into the Tinderbox.

Player safety is a good thing.

Armchair internet badasses can whine all day that they don't play as hard as they did when "real men" used to play. To that, I say two things: When "real men" played the game according to these guys, your average NFL linebacker looked like Bud from the gas station. The game has changed. Now, players are setting speed and strength records at the combine that would have turned heads at Olympic qualifiers in the 80s. They're bigger, the game is faster, and the contacts are harder. Are players gouging eyes at the bottom of a scrum? Probably not. But every impact between these guys is hitting with the g-forces of a car accident.

And second, knowing what we know about CTE now, it's frankly perverse not to crack down on risks to player safety. Voluntarily consuming sports entertainment from league that's not taking every measure to ensure the health and safety of their players, while league retirees in their 40s are blowing their brains out, beating their wives, and have palsy so bad they can't even climb down their own stairs, is just barbaric. I mean look what happened to Antonio Brown, who's eggs got scrambled so bad his entire personality changed for life. Just because of a hit from Vontaze Burfict, who was every "it's a man's game" golden age fallacy fan's favorite player. Cheering on that kind of play for one's own entertainment is no better than gladiatorial combat.

I enjoy football, but I seriously question the sadistic tendencies of anyone who complains that players are less inclined to grievously injure each other.

Shut up.

The first time you put on a helmet the sticker inside says improper use of the helmet or technique can result in Paralysis or Death.

Even back in 1975 every kid was taught right from the first day about Paralysis.

You might enjoy soccer more.

The video doesn't really look that bad, but I'm trusting the team made the right decision and the hit was egregious enough to warrant the punishment.  As a fan, I'm not going to second guess this decision for a bottom of the roster guy, but the DB coach clearly had a better view than this video and was on Ibe's ass about the hit before he even realized the extent of the potential injury to Kirkwood.

There’s 0 about this franchise that deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to decision making. This franchise passed up on Justin Fields for Sam fuging Darnold. They do dumb poo.

Nah. There a difference between boot camp running laps and y’all did fugged up laps.

What billycheat did was exactly what Rhule did. Make a mental mistake, take a lap. This is Pro football nancy. You want to get paid, you do the work.

It's difficult to see exactly what happened because of the camera angle and the light pole is in the way.  One defenders is hitting his legs which lowered the body.  If the defender doesn't grab his legs Ibe tackles his solidly in the chest.  Things happen so fast in the NFL and sometimes what appears to be a cheap shot really is just a matter of circumstances.

I agree that he should have been removed from the field and a serious ass chewing but IMO cutting him was not necessary.  I think CJ is right.  What message are we sending to our DBs.

That is stupid. Any coach worth their salt teaches that you don't knock the crap out of your own teammates. You save it for the opponent on game day. You can be physical without being reckless and that hit was reckless and over the top. Somehow equating this to politics and being weak just tells me how little you know about coaching football. Football is a violent sport but it is controlled violence with a purpose. The kid was a sacrificial lamb to make a point and teach a lesson that being stupid and out of control results in consequences. Rhule just showed what that could be.

He wasn't going to make the team. Why keep him around and risk him doing it again?

This. The guy was just a camp body that probably wouldn't even make the first wave of cuts to 75. No point in keeping him around and sending a message to other players that they can make hits like that.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
