Did we though???

Link???

The Dolphins, and especially Suh at the time, shat all over the Panthers during joint practices and how the Dolphins had to tone it back.  The Dolphins beat writers were quasi-crowning them during the practices on Twitter and talking about how the Panthers couldn't match the physicality...

Then a couple of months later Cam and the rest of the gang demolished them on MNF...

So yeah that absolutely happened

As opposed to faith that we will simply improve overnight as if by magic? That's the rational thought process?

I'm not making claims that we're going to be great this year and it'll be all sunshine and roses. There have been positives and negatives to takeaway from this offseason so far but I'm not going to make any assumptions about how the season is going to go based on how we look in practice. It's silly. Practices (and joint practices in particular) serve many different purposes and coaches have a plan about how to go about it and positive results don't always show up in things we as fans or that media can see. There is so much more to these practices than meets the eye and people get way too worked up about "winning or losing" against the Ravens, Colts, etc. when that really doesn't factor in much at all.

2015 really was the perfect example of this. Nobody here thought there was any chance at all based on how training camp and preseason went that we'd have any real shot at competing. We were coming off a losing season (albeit one that came with a playoff win...) and on paper had no reason to think we would be better. Our starters looked like complete trash in the joint practices and preseason games they played. Yet we dominated our way to 15-1 and a SB appearance (with an unfortunate choke, but still a tremendously successful season overall).

There's just no reason to read into it like you are and make up your mind that we won't be able to compete against playoff teams. The point is we still have no idea. Why be negative about it now?

Okay. We shall see. I'm sure we're just intentionally sandbagging. They'll never see us coming once the games start counting for real. *evil villain laugh*

Your point would hold a lot more water if you didn't intentionally twist what he said js.

I remember that well.  Dolphins players were bragging openly saying that our coaches asked their coaches to back off just so we could practice running some plays fully.  Then we annihilated them during the season.

I remember a few years ago, Tampa Bay was on Hard Knocks and absolutely dominated the Jaguars in joint practices and scrimmages. That year Jaguars turned out to be one of the best AFC teams and the Bucs had a losing record.

This is a completely accurate take on the 2015 Training Camp and preseason.

The Newton/Norman fight became almost a mythological symbol of that TC bc both went on to have incredible seasons, and it's easy to see that as a defining moment in retrospect.

But at the time it was indicative of a team about to fall apart.

Every season takes on a life of its own. No one truly knows until it unfolds.

This team has too many question marks to project them being a contender

But there is also an incredible amount of young talent that could surprise the league if the chips fall right

Yes and it works both ways, way too early to project them as one of the worst teams
