If we build a great team here, we could potentially attract a top talent.

It's why you draft the young man with talent when you have the chance. Coaching guys up is part of it, but just like Chip Kelley found out the NFL is not ''plug and play'' and I feel like that's what we're doing. 

When I watch the clips it sounds like they talked themselves into Darnold thinking that Fields wouldn't fall once SF moved up. 

Then when Fields was there and we'd given up 3 picks for Darnold to save face they took BPA at a position of need ON DEFENSE. After literally DEVOTING the entire 2020 class to defense. I like the class this year, if you swap Fields for Horn, man oh man. That's something to HAVE BEEN excited about as we move forward. With Darnold, most are annoyed because he hasn't been good, and now we're stuck hoping we can 'turn it around' the 'fresh start' narrative. 

When was the last time that worked? Not being facetious I'm genuinely asking, when was the last young failed QB picked up and went onto to NFL success....

Gabbert, Rosen, Haskins, Bortles, Mariotta, WInston (maybe TBD), EJ Manuel, etc. all no's.

At the very least with all the day 2 trading Mond should have been in the mix for one of those spots just because PJ, and Grier have no futures beyond career back ups.

If Sam is poop then Rhule will be on the hot seat even though he still has like 5 years or so on his contract. You can't whiff on two starting QBs in a row and not feel some heat. Sam has to be a big hit or the pressure will ramp up. 

I think Rhule is an extremely intelligent person, perfectionist, and has a type A personality. But much like Emperor Palpatine his overconfidence might be his weakness. He's thinking that his brand of football and the right guys on the team can make up for not having a terrific QB. Rhule knew Teddy wasn't a superstar. Rhule knows Darnold isn't the next Tom Brady. He's putting all of his chips on his blueprint and system. He's all in on himself, and he doesn't think we need a star QB. The problem is that many football players are not highly intelligent perfectionists, and when dumber players (Whitehead from last season as an example) blooper up Rhule's plans he's going to lose it. A superstar QB can just take over the game and make other player's mistakes less damaging.

My point being that passing on Fields doesn't mean we will never have a chance at a QB again. There are multiple avenues to obtain one that don't involve top 10 picks. Perhaps with lower chances of happening but they do happen. Our franchise future isn't over because we may have passed on a single prospect. Let's let this all play out.

I am at the point where my speculation is low and my anticipation is high. Football is right around the corner and we will get all the answers we want on the field every Sunday.

Rhule struck me as someone able to get the guys to play well above their abilities last year quite often.  If he can do that again I think it's a real indication of his strength as a coach.

QB is a concern but I think they've already made it clear they don't mind scuttling a multi year contract if one year isn't great.  And Teddy wasnt atrocious last year, just mediocre... That wasn't good enough and is a promising sign for what the coaches want out of a QB.

There were ‘concerns’ about Aaron Rodgers.  Joe Montana. Mahomes. 
there were concerns with the Ravens QB too

some coaches are smarter (or luckier) than others 

I hope you are right.

However,  Rhule needs to show me.

After years with Panthers coaches and PR pablum from the front office:

Bill parcell’s  ‘you are what your record says you are’ is the best motto in the nfl.

It's possible but one thing that indicates rhule values a big time QB is moving on from Teddy after 1 year.  As hard as we all are on Teddy he was a middle of the pack QB on a team without its superstar RB with a mid to bad defense.  Plenty of excuses for a coach if they wanted to make them... And they didn't when it mattered, moving on from him.

I am not a football historian, but I believe Steve Young, Bret Favre, and Curt Warner are 3 hall of fame qb who found success with their second or third teams.  Carson Palmer, and Drew Brees were not the definitive franchise qb until their second stop, our own Jake may kind of fit in that category as well.  Currently Tanahill, (not sure on spelling) is playing much better with his second team.  I don't know if Sam is the answer, but there have been several qb who have been successful after leaving their first team.

After watching camp confidential, something has dawned on me. Rhule still acts like he's in college. He talks like a professor constantly asking rhetorical questions. He talked about the players like they were cattle when he was saying "we've gotta run them more". 

I think it would probably behoove him to start treating them like professional men instead of children.

Rhule is keeping Darnold from playing to maintain his trade value. Cam purposely didn't get vaccinated so he could lose the starting gig by technicality. We will be trading Darnold for Cam to get him back and go to the SB

It won't impact him as much given the youth of the team but if he is around long enough to bring in a bunch of veteran players, it could have an impact. I don't think that will annoy people that much if we are winning, after all consider how many players talk about how miserable being a Patriot under Belichick is. If we can't sustain winning seasons, it may eventually wear on veteran players.

Literally EVERYONE in the nfl wants a star QB. Only 6-7 teams actually have one.

Rhule and Fits tried to trade for a better QB but ultimately had to settle for Darnold.

Fields might be good, but the eagles, lions, and Broncos passed on him too.

Lets see what happens there before we pass judgment on Rhule.

They gave up a 2nd round pick and two day 3 picks for Darnold.

They're not passing over a franchise QB for that investment. They clearly think Darnold is a better player than you do - and that Fields isn't as good as you think he is.

We'll see who's right. I'm betting it's Rhule and Fitterer.
