This is not the most this place has ever cared about a backup. Matt Moore of recent memory comes to mind as a much more talked about backup here.

Throughout a pretty solid portion of the 2003 season, there were multiple people pushing the idea that Chris Weinke should start.

As utterly ridiculous as that sounds now, it really happened.

Pretty clear that PJ is Rhule's guy. Neither of them are good enough to be the backup but this team had a lot of holes to fill and you can't address them all at once. Backup QB is pretty far down the priority list.

I do not think the Temple thing is a factor.  Grier won the battle, and you want the iron that is forged when the heat is the hottest.  I do not see keeping both duds--we keep 1 or neither.

I think Grier is a better fit for our offense and will get the nod.  I am impressed by his development up to this point in his young career.  Hoping he can continue to make progress and have a long career here.
