What Jets fans are saying

From a Jets fan I'll level with you guys.

We don't know what we got.  With a new HC, OC, DC, rookie QB, and massive roster turnover we cant really predict what we will look like.  Saleh is a good coach with a good rep so we are hoping that shines through.

We know we have holes at LB, DB, and to a lesser extent OL, TE, and RB is underwhelming so far.

What we do have is a great push in the middle of the DL, a deep and talented WR pool, and Wilson looked very solid in preseason.  There is a chance our passing game will have big success, but maybe its too early in the season for Wilson to breakthrough.

At the least we want to look different from last season.  Adam Gase was a low point in a decade of low points and we need to put as much distance from that as possible.  A lot of us would be okay losing as long as we look competitive, keep it close, and scoring TDs doesn't require a miracle.

That said, were encouraged, even excited, to face Darnold.   It is our big hope for winning this game.   Now don't misunderstand me.  Darnold could develop into a solid starter under the right conditions.  But you dont have those conditions.  He spent 3 years behind a terrible line and what he needed was to go to a team that had an above average line to actually allow him to develop.   Again, you don't have that and we don't believe Darnold can develop behind a sub par line.    Gase turned him into a head case.  What Sam needs is to stop overthinking and get back to playing loose, playing street ball.

IMO this game will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes.  That will probably be you, but like I said, we don't know what we got yet.

Good luck this game and the rest of the season.  It should be said that after this game most of us will be rooting for Sam because he is a good guy and we know he had a damaging stint under Gase.   We hope he becomes your Ryan Tannahil.   Just not t his week.

Logical assessment.

All that yapping about our offensive liabilities and how their questionable defense will perform.  They might want to get familiar with Brian Burns, Jeremy Chinn, Haason Reddick, Derrick Brown, and Jayce Horn real quick.

At least they know our feared O-lineman Tyler Morton.

Hopefully Jayce Horn and Derrick Brown will play and stand their ground against starters and not 2nd or 3rd string players like they did in pre-season.

I can't wait to see Sam go for 350 and 4 TDs on Sunday.

I believe he's trying to state that he's hopeful that they play as well against starters as they did against 2nd and 3rds, it's just worded poorly. Granted, this ignores the fact that they did play against starters, at least some, in the preseason.

From a Jets fan over at their site :

Way too much fire power for what is destined to be the leagues worst D to stop.  No pass rush, no corners vs. that offense?  Sam can throw 2 picks and they're still going to blow us out.

Brian Burns, Hassan Reddick on the edge.  Brown in the middle.  Horn and Bouye on the outside w/ Chin and Griffin flying around.  Not going to be an easy day for a rookie QB with a rookie play caller and a rookie HC with a rookie DC.

Oh and for the 100th time, if you're a Jets fan, you know without a shadow of a doubt Sam and Robby have career days.  It was written in stone the day this game was announced.  Laugh at Sam Darnold all you want, he sucks but this is the same dude who took a terrible winless team into L.A. and won.  Same dude backed it up vs. the Browns the next week.   He's going to go off.

You can imagine the Jets fans over there weren't appreciative on this Reality-Check given.   LOL!

I always liked these threads. Slight favorable consensus, close game but Panthers win. I can agree with. Not much analysis here since it’s game one (and it’s the Jets) but another take away is their fans seem very, very high on Wilson. Other than that they’re pretty realistic overall with expectations with very low expectations of Darnold - basically expect him to roll over with any pressure.

Talked a lot of smack about our oline…makes complete sense except thinking  Miller out meant good things though, if only they knew it means nothing.

This is an 8-win team and the Panthers are one of the games that’s winnable.

If Douglas, Saleh, and Wilson truly are generational as we’ve been promised, it will show in Week 1.

“Jets 13

Panthers 27

it’s going to be a long miserable season. I’m just hoping there’s no injuries and the rookies improve as well as coaching throughout the year so there is hope for the future. “

“This game 'should' be determined by the QBs and RBs.

Sam has an easier task ahead if him with our secondary.

Panthers also have CM.

Jets 28 : Panthers 17

I just think Wilson is much more talented.”

I expect Sam to be mostly checkdown Charlie to McCaffrey with a few deep shots to Robbie. We’ll see if our young LB’s & secondary can contain this. But agree it may be a high scoring game.

“Pressure on Sam Darnold is the key to victory. We know he gets happy feet back there. If we don’t apply any pressure with our front 4, he’ll be able to sit back there and play well vs our young secondary. Panthers weakness on offense is probably the offensive line. They have playmakers all over the field. “

“Very winnable game.

Hopefully the interior can get some pressure on Sam as it would unsettle him with happy feet for the rest of the game.

I’d be shocked if Robby doesn’t beat us deep at least once. Rhule uses him in much more ways than the Jets did but with Echols/Dunn he should be able to isolate and smoke one of them.

I think Elijah Moore might go off. A lot of the focus on Davis after the preseason but we’ll be desperate to get Moore the ball and see what he can do.

Need a lot of defensive players to over perform, especially the rookie LB’s, they looked awful against Philly.

I think it will be close. 27-24 either way. I’ll be pretty pissed if we’re just blown away. We need to start competing. “

“Our secondary is weak to say the least and while Sam may not be great, he will likely pick them apart. I am hopeful about our coaching staff, but there some 23 players on this team who have only been through one real off-season, 12 are rookies. I would expect we will not see quality play especially on defense until at least halfway through the season.

At least we should have some excitement out of our offense. Not a lot of wins, but hopefully more fun that last year - yes, I know a very low bar.”

“The Jets young D better have a good game or it'll get ugly early Sunday afternoon. Can they make Sam see ghosts?

Because if they don't and the Panthers OL is able to protect Darnold and give him time he'll eat up the Jets secondary throwing to a real WR1, WR2, TE.

If the Panthers OL is able to open a few holes for McCaffrey the Jets will have to play more guys in the box exposing the very young and experienced secondary.

I think the only way the Jets win this game is in a shoot out where Zach has a huge day.”

“Other than Morton at RT, the Carolina Oline is trash. If Jets can get a good pass rush, Mosley can contain CMC and Becton does well against Harris (Carolina’s stud edge pass rusher; Becton should destroy him in the run game), and Wilson doesn’t stink, the Jets can win this one.”

Looks likes Igo’s post has them triggered lol:

As much as this hurts to say, unless PJ comes in at half...Jets probably get the win off a Darnold pick 6 but o well....

Fug them Jets. Fug em. - Carolina Panthers - Carolina Huddle

“thanks for the link. its links like that that make me want to see Sam crash and burn.

we get no respect around the league. were a punchline to the fans. that is why anyone traded has to be bad. we cant be the " same old Jets" and trade away players who turn out to be good.

every Jet fan who wants Sam to have a good season ( but not this week, they say ) should look at the jokes at our teams expense.

i would post that in the Jets locker room if i could.”

“This is funny, but seriously though... who the **** are the Panthers?

They're just as pathetic as us expect they haven't been around as long.  “

The Panthers are a pathetic franchise just like us.  They're just too delusional to realize the truth.”

Seeing @CPsinceDay1's posting there is an utter disgrace.

@CPsinceDay1 is on my poo-list. I mean he was already there, but he's showing himself to be an even bigger turd.

He will probably be banned, but I'll do it after the Jets game.

Not "probably".   Please DO IT, rayzor.

That right there proves that he's not really a Panthers fan but moreso a PJ Walker fan who will stop at nothing to wish injury or struggle on our QB just so his "guy" gets in the game.     Interesting that I'm accused of being a Sam fan by some kungfool-idiot but CP is never questioned for his PJ obsession.

If you ban him, it would be long overdue and he can focus on his new alt accounts he's created here.    (or until PJ is traded/released and he can go become a fan of whatever team he ends up with)

You aren't a Panthers fan. You literally posted that you weren't. If we ban that dope, you'd be next.

Really?   Somehow I doubt that very much as I haven't given @rayzorany reason for that to happen nor will I.

You, however, have crapped on me on every turn since I've been here.

What that "dope" has done is shown that I'm more a Panthers fan than he ever was.

I don't go posting on opposing team's boards like a moron.

Good post.  We're concerned about the OL but also encouraged that Darnold will have plenty of weapons to throw to down field and the best checkdown option in the NFL  - Christian McCaffrey.
