8 Saints test positive for Covid (coaches and player)

Relax.  The only details have been six assistant coaches, one nutritionist, and one player on IR have been placed in protocol.  That could mean they all had close contact with someone that tested positive and not actually be positive.  The Saints have 100% of staff vaccinated meaning protocol would be having two negative tests 24 hours apart and they can return immediately.  There's a chance they can all be back by in person by Thursday.  They can still sit in on game planning remotely.  The player doesn't come into play at all being on IR.

If they are the kinds of football coaches who are young and in some semblance of shape, they very, very likely wouldn’t die anyway.

And if they aren't, you never know.

You never really know anyway, because fitness gurus have died as well.

I don't know where this forfeit talk is coming from BUT if it did happen, it would be both a good thing and a bad thing.

A good thing because it gives the Panthers a nice 2-0 start to the season plus it's one game less that CMC gets overused.

A bad thing because we still won't know how Sam would've improved from Week 1.   There will be constant speculation for another full week regarding that.

Anyway, we'll see how the NFL handles this.

Call me crazy, but I think I'd take the automatic win and just deal with a week of Sam speculation.

(That said, I doubt very highly the game will be forfeited)

Not trying to bring politics into this, then why are vaccinated people ordered to wear masks if “we will be just fine” ?

I think to make it easier on those that are not vaccinated.  Not to mentioned you can still catch and spread if vaccinated, although rare.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
