Holy cow, there is "projecting" going on involving a message board about an NFL team?  WTF else does any poster on here have to do if not projecting or complaining about projecting while indeed projecting?

And whether the call is stupidity or malice or even a combination of both it is certainly a relevant talking point.  What is wrong with this board where so much energy is spent certifying which topics are worthy of discussion and which one's are not?

Here is Person's take on it (pay wall)  https://theathletic.com/2828732/2021/09/15/person-what-happened-to-the-keep-pounding-chant-for-the-panthers-in-week-1-and-will-it-return/

There are a few things in Charlotte that should not be messed with: craft breweries, Bojangles and bankers’ hours.

As for the local football team, at least two things are generally considered sacred — natural grass and anything related to Sam Mills. And in the space of a few months, the Panthers have botched both of them.

On the same day the Panthers played their first regular-season game on artificial turf at Bank of America Stadium, they ditched the coordinated “Keep Pounding” pre-game chant that both fired up the home crowd and paid homage to Mills, the franchise’s only player to have his number (51) retired.

It’s unclear whether it was an oversight by the team’s entertainment division or the Panthers simply decided to do away with what’s become a popular part of the game-day experience. As of Wednesday afternoon, team officials were mum on what happened before Sunday’s opener against the Jets.

Update: A Panthers spokesman said the goal is to have the “Keep Pounding” chant evolve to the point where fans don’t need any prompting to start it. The team plans to coordinate the chant for this week’s game against the Saints, but won’t necessarily do so for every home game.

of course it’s a topic worth discussing. It’s just annoying how fast it went from ...

The team didn’t initiate the chant for this ONE game to ....

Tepper personally axed it to make more money and because he hates Carolinians and wants to move the team.

C’mon.

BTW..I’m not defending Tepper, just basic reason.

ok, I see the irritation with conspiracy theorists.  I just ignore them like I have been doing during elections and covid anyway so I am getting pretty damn good at it.

I have been a fan of Tepper but the buck stops at his desk and he has some work to do.

I will say, even as a NC native myself...I was completely blindsided by how different SC is.  Not a fan at all, personally...but again, that stems primarily from the political divide and the implications of that.

Its visually different.  The flora changes from deciduous forests with dark soil to Pine trees and sand.  Political crap aside, its most likely that we are lumped as "the Carolinas" when there is no correlation other than proximity.

To be clear, we dont chase SC folks back down when they wander up this way.  Its still friendly(-ish).  My wife is from SC, so there's that.

Not that I agree with the decision to remove the stadium initialized chant before the game but I have always felt, having attended various sporting events, that organic chants of the same variety always felt more satisfying than the ones that are contrived through the video board or signs. Having said that, most arenas/stadiums have a healthy mix of both. Almost all popular chants are lead by the team/stadium at some point during the game.

Sort of...

Is he ultimately responsible for the entire organization? Yeah.

Does that means he's directly involved with every aspect of the team on a daily basis?

Not really.

It's possible someone in stadium operations just plain screwed up and Tepper wouldn't know anything about it.

    • I’m honestly not trying to argue with you or talk bad about Scourton, I like him and I’ve watched all of his Purdue stuff/videos you linked previously. Just like I’ve watched all of Princely’s Florida stuff I’m only pointing out the weight thing because I’m excited about the idea of him being 255-260 and being more of a stand up edge here in Carolina like he was at Purdue versus at A&M And like you, I have a crap load of experience doing the whole cutting/weight/fitness thing and I know how crappy/sluggish I feel when I’m holding as little as an extra 8-10lbs of unnecessary weight. So for Scourton to come out and say he’s 255-260 now and feels good that’s exciting based on what he’s put on film at 280 and not feeling his best
    • I hate seeing this. I'm not sure he was ever going to make it in the NFL without the injury but that injury knocked FSU out of the college football playoffs and cost him and them and opportunity on the biggest stage in college sports. The injuries are the worst part of this game. They've created a nearly unending list of "what ifs". Hell, every HS, college, and pro team out there has a long list of them. It's also a good reminder that there's no such thing as a routine major injury. Even though sports medicine has improved dramatically in recent decades, major injuries are still somewhat of a coin flip on how a guy is going to emerge from it.
    • I don't know what Texas A&M was doing with their edge rushers. They had two freaks in Scourton and Shemar Stewart and yet instead of turning them loose they asked them to play 20 lbs overweight and just set the edge. That's full-on coaching malpractice at any level. Much was made about Shemar Stewart's lack of sack production, but while he wasn't my favorite prospect this year a lot of that was clearly what they were asking him to do. The good news with Scourton is that, unlike Stewart, did manage to be a huge factor as a pass rusher despite this and despite playing 20 lbs overweight. If he can stay around 260-265 it should help him re-gain some of that explosiveness from his Purdue days.
