Panthers not in mix to acquire Texans QB Deshaun Watson:

Despite the recent struggles of quarterback Sam Darnold, the Panthers are not in the mix for embattled Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, sources familiar with the situation told The Athletic.

After news broke that the Texans and Dolphins could finalize a Watson trade by the end of the week, The Athletic reported Wednesday that the Panthers have had recent discussions with Houston. But those talks were not considered substantial, according to sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Speaking on a conference call with New York media on Thursday, Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said "I haven't done any work on anyone else" and "I believe Sam (Darnold) will be a great quarterback for the Carolina Panthers."

That does not necessarily mean the Panthers view Darnold as their long-term quarterback, though they believe he can be effective with a healthy Christian McCaffrey and better pass protection. The Panthers' decision not to engage with the Texans speaks more to their unwillingness to give up multiple first-round draft picks for a player who is facing 22 active civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct and sexual assault in various massage appointments.

dont tell me mr. in on every deal isnt in the mix.

There is enough legit reporting that we have been in on Watson.  It’s the words that matter.  We aren’t in the mix ….means the price is too high for us.  But clearly we have been asking about it.

Gotta love how the Atlantic has two conflicting stories up.

They don’t really conflict.

they said the Panthers have talked to the Texans about Watson

Rhule simply said HE didn’t.  That’s not his job either.  Then gave coach speak on Sam.

clearly Carolina would be interested in what they would view as a good deal.  That just doesn’t seem to be on the table.

and for the record, I don’t want Watson in a giveaway deal at this point.  GM shouldn’t be looking for a good value there.

    • I think Indiana will win it all but Miami should give them a much better fight than Oregon did.
    • When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
