Exactly.....Statistically he was the worse QB in the NFL his first three years. He is/was on pace to having a worse season than ANY of his three seasons with the Jets.

Wait. Really? This was supposed to be Darnold's chance with "better" coaching and a "better" supporting cast. I said it yesterday and will do so again. This team has moved into ringling bros circus GIF by Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey territory.

Jesus christ this is such a dumpster fire.

You get rid of Cam, get Teddy, Get rid of Teddy, Get Sam, only to get Cam back.

Imagine if you actually rolled the dice with Cam instead of taking all these unnecessary steps.

Yep. Bc Cam was definitely going to sign a 1-year deal with the team he had been with for a decade in a “prove it” scenario on a bad shoulder.

People need to stop looking at this situation as the same as 2019.

Haven't read this whole thread, but no. Just wait until the draft when they over draft a QB or trade down to recoup traded away picks passing on the good guards, tackles, and centers in favor of more mid to late round guys and DBs.

I’m afraid you are right.

I hope Cam can give us a good season or so. 16 more games. He finishes out this season strong and can play into next year before giving way to a rookie. But sadly I think we might need him even longer than that.

Darnold might still be serviceable as a backup but he has to rip up his contract and sign a backup one.

Think this is getting blown out of proportion. What we will do with Darnold is put him on IR and in 4 weeks see how Cam is doing. Darnold is signed through 2023. Those who were upset we moved too quickly from Cam seem to have no problem doing the same thing with Darnold. Maybe we should learn from history.

Cam was never ranked dead last in all-time stats among QBs who have thrown at least 160 passes.  Nowhere near.  So letting him go was always the wrong move.  This Darnold experiment is over.  Signing Cam should signal that.  This move came from Tepper and put the staff on notice that their experiments with their guys are DONE.

I think Cam plays the rest of the year out, plays well, and we re-up 2 or 3 years after this one.  Both Rhule and Fitt said yesterday that they see Cam has "a lot of really good football left," and it's arguable if Sam has any.  Sam is done.  He will be lucky to secure a backup spot after his performance this year, even here.

He has absolutely no reason to do that.

If he does nothing he gets paid $19m. If for some reason out of the goodness of his heart he restructures how many more contracts would it take for him to get to $19m?

Also, I watched the full presser for context, and it seemed he said this more in regards to having to put Sam on IR, but there were undertones of "we'll have to figure out what to do with him."  There were several times that Fitt rattled off what they would do with PJ, Cam and Matt, and then seemed to toss in Sam like an afterthought.  He also said at one point "IF Sam comes back," which seemed to indicate more than just an injury issue.

Otherwise he gets cut. Some other team will sign him as a backup I'm sure. He's getting that money either way but to stay with the Panthers they'd have to redo that contract.

Someone more knowledgeable than me can explain the details but I’ve been told that his option is fully guaranteed.

If we string a couple wins and pick in the 16+ range, that’s what Fit will do.

Again you are getting way ahead of things because of your love for Cam. As a Panther fan we all hope Cam does great and our QB woes are gone. But that is far from given and right now Darnold is already getting paid. He has not really gotten a chance to sit and learn from a veteran pro. He is our back up or starter depending on how Cam and PJ do the next 4 weeks. There is plenty of time to evaluate everything after this season is over.
