Of course our poo organization was focusing on RBs to "keep the pressure off Cam" or in whatever fuging dorkey ass stupid way they think a RB is going to do that when you need OL help specifically LT since Gross...just super incompetence abound

Think about that Mahommes/Watson were available too lol.

Lots of RBs taken after 3rd round too like Aaron Jones and James Connor and such. Or just any RB that most good teams can just plug whoever in and have them go.

love CMC but that was a deep draft and we DID pass on the best player in the league

I'll never knock McCaffrey's talent it is clear as day but the better long term backs of our franchise were bruisers built like Fournette see Jonathan Stewart and Stephen Davis. We took a gamble on McCaffrey's versatility as more of a Swiss army knife when we should have just focused on what we knew had already worked and gotten us to two Super Bowls. You live and learn but unfortunately we tend to always learn the hard way.

Just imagine Rhule forces Sam down our throats for the last few games, he sucks again, but we beat the Saints in NO somehow and miss out on a top 10 pick. The best O-lineman go before us, nobody wants to trade back, and we are forced to reach for a project like Pickett and we run it back with Sam as nobody wants is 5th year option. Wooo!

Tampa has been smart about sharing the runningback workload between Fournette and others.

Our first few seasons with McCaffrey saw...a different approach.

Granted it could happen, but that second sentence is a valid point.

Well, technically the most a team would be on the hook for is $12 mil in 2025. The only guaranteed money on the deal is $8.4 mil next year. It's actually not an AWFUL contract to trade. Now, it would nuke our 2022 cap with dead money.

Plus, the missing 23 of the past 33 games is not going to make many teams at all interested in taking on that deal unless the price is very low.

I think what will likely happen IF he continues to not get healthy in 2022 is we jettison him for nickels in a trade after the 2022 season or just simply take the cap hit and cut him.

Either way, the bulk of this board was flipping poo at the small group of us that were against the signing at the time. This is literally what we were concerned about. I can't say enough how bad of an idea it is in the modern NFL to pay top 5 money for a RB. ANY RB.

Lol Fournette isn't a good back and wasn't a good pick either.  Not really sure what the article is trying to suggest honestly?  It could have made the argument that McCaffrey wasn't a good pick without also trying to draw parallels between him and Fournette.  Fournette just so happens to play for an absolutely loaded offense.

The draft decision was absolutely correct between those two options. Our extension was not. Fournette's probably playing for relatively cheap in Tampa Bay.

Stephen Davis played three seasons with us and spent 33% of that time on IR.

Speaking of that draft, people should look at the first round

2017 NFL Draft Listing | Pro-Football-Reference.com

This idea of not wanting to trade down because they might lose out on a sure thing is ridiculous.

Take the QBs out of the equation and Myles Garrett (there is a reason the #1 pick is so expensive) who are the 3 best players from that draft?

Watt at 30?

Ramcyk at 32?

Adams at 6?

White at 27?

When you look at old drafts you realize how hard finding greats players really is, even in the first.

Skill wise, McCaffrey blows Fournette away. Doubt anyone would argue that.

As far as availability though, Tampa is using Fournette smarter than we are McCaffrey.

(and to be fair, getting more consistent results)

      I truly do not understand why we rushed him back last season, we were a bad team with an already productive back in Chuba. Brooks looked like he was 60% back and clearly hadn’t regained full movement in his knee and confidence, no surprise he got reinjured. Shame on this training staff, look no further then Chuba returning too soon this season, I don’t care how bad a player wants to come back a training staff is there to protect them. Brooks is a great person and was an amazing player prior to both injuries, I hope he’s recovering well.

      Brother thanks for sharing and all. Just for a 21 year army guy you sure over used your brain power on this interaction little too much...  Not that's Im taking a side or nothing, Ive never been a bully fan * in extreme deals bullying in needed..... I've heard from smart people in and around Panthers, Smitty needed Angie for guidance BADLY.  I've honestly thought if Smitty was born 20 years later, he should have taken a MMA path and not only would he have been a champion but a humbled good man with or without Angie helping him. He has never took off the enmoureous chip on his shoulder and it has branched off as a stick in arse over time too. Still everyone can not be or act the same with emotions, we are chemical sacks of water and bones. He reminds me of brain-washed individuals that can not turn off the switch. Plus he is high on thinking he's smarting than he is.......its a dangerous combo, but that's mainly what gave him the edge in life to live out the American dream......soooo I dare say change, but its sad at the same time. All those poor women that get involved with narcissistic disloyal men, one of the few times I agree to take what ever form them in court...

      Completely agreed.  TBH, we have had so many great players that are in my favorite list, and I hate to narrow it down to one, but Cam is it.  Which is crazy, because you would think it would be more of the guys I grew up watching, but no.  Cam was the single most impactful player to ever out on a football uniform imo.  And like I said in an earlier post, I always felt a kinship with him in a lot of ways…  the way he was treated and judged for the off the field stuff in Florida and having to overcome all of that and fight show at back.  And although I am not a black man, I have always been welcomed by and accepted more by minorities, and thus, I know what it’s like to be judged by appearances rather than the content of your character and who you actually are.  I know what it’s like to be stereotyped and written off or mistreated for your mistakes.  I know what it’s like to be held to a different standard while your peers don’t have to meet that same standard.  So I always related to that.  And the way he came in and just electrified the whole franchise, man…  I still think about it often how much it sucks that because of how talented he was, our staff out so much on him and that ultimately cut his career short.  You’re right, there will never be another Cam…  I think Josh Allen is the closest thing we will see for a long time, but Allen is not the running threat Cam was.  Cam could run you over or around you.  That was THE absolute funnest time to watch our team ever.
