OC Targets: O’Brien, Jay Gruden

The issue was never OC. Brady while being inexperienced as a play caller was a big problem his ability to design some nice plays was actually very good, he just had no idea how to call a game. The main issue is all the positional coaches are from Temple and Baylor and just simply aren't NFL level coaches. Will the new OC have the power to bring in some of their own coaches? My guess is no and that's why no one with any other options is going to take this job.

Tepper will bump their salary plus they know if Rhule fails again they are taking over mid season. If we get an OC with head coaching experience, I’ll feel a little better about next season. That’s a sign Tepper is making Rhule bring in outside help (which honestly makes no sense why we are keeping Rhule).

Are those really guys you'd want as your head coach, though?

O'Connell maybe but if you wanna go tht route there are probably better options.

One other thing: I believe bumping an interim to a full time job allows you to skirt the Rooney Rule. Is that something Tepper wants to do?

Regardless, if these guys represent Tepper's head coaching choices, I'm gonna echo that call that he needs to hire an outside consultant (or let Fitterer and Morgan handle that process).

I’d imagine someone from the Steelers organization actually cares about the Rooney rule.

this just doesn’t make a lot of sense. You’re basically preparing yourself to have someone with head coaching experience for when you fire ruhle.

just fuging fire him already

Not really. It’s something to attract a solid OC though. I don’t think we will extend them the following year unless they really turn the team around which will be very difficult with a shitty OL and Darnold…

Maybe. Not guaranteed though, and it's not hard to imagine Tepper being a guy who sees himself as above the rules.

But yeah, just fire him already. What's the point?

Also, as mentioned above, firing him gives you access to a lot better choices than these guys.

    • I can say that I have defended Canales because I get that they are doing all they can to keep from looking like idiots for drafting Bryce, from the trade up to signing $150m guards to drafting XL and Brooks etc---nothing seems to work.  And Hiring Canales was part of the Bryce Young rehab program, so so he can't really decide to "move on."  That has to come from Morgan and Tepper. Personally, I think Bryce is due for an injury.  He is small, he is not thick, and he has been a LOT more healthy than most any other QB has who has endured so much pressure.  The thing that bothers me is this---Bryce really does not go through his progressions quickly.  He locks on to his presnap read and stays locked onto him for too long--he seems to fail to anticipate the WR/TE's positioning on the play before the cut--for example, if the WR is running a dig and the CB has his back to the inside of the field, he should be open for a second or less just after the cut.  He seems to wait until the cut has been made before deciding, then checking down quickly while moving in the pocket. OL:  There seems to be a lack of communication--is that on Mays?  Watch this team presnap--they seem a bit confused at times.   I can almost predict the success rate of the play by watching the center and QB before the snap.
    • Anyone else remember back in 2010 when Fox piloted having music under the in-game replays during one of Carolina's games? Not the commercial bumpers but the actual replay clips that the announcers would talk over. Pretty sure it was vs the 49ers. And it was terrible. Point being, Carolina continues being so bad that we get the networks trying things out during their games.
    • Is it bad I found this video more hilarious than pathetic? I am still laughing at that one play where half the people on the field ran into each other and Bryce still couldn't see Chuba wide open... Also laughing at Cade blocking nobody and somehow losing his cleat Man this offense is a poo show
