Were they better the year before though?

I ask because Rhule fired his first DL coach (Mike Phair, a guy with NFL experience but no connection to Rhule) and promoted Okam to replace him.

When asked for comment on why he let go of Phair, Rhule's only comment was something along the lines of "we do things a different way here".

And THIS is why I am glad you are back with us---nobody knows the coaches etc. on all teams like you.

Expected Blackburn. Rhule's ST coordinator, Ed Foley, is already on the coaching staff.

Expected Meyer. The OL has been trash and he does not have a record of success. Pls bby gsus bring in Mike Munchak.

Okam seems like a, "See? I can fire a Baylor guy!" move since Okam came with him from Baylor but Okam had only been with him for a year. I'm a little concerned to say the least at who they bring in here because the team has consistently underperformed in the trenches.

Hire Mike Munchak for any amount of money that he wants as OL coach and running game coordinator.  Give him absolute free rein over the draft.  He uses every pick on OL.    Add a couple of bruising blocking TE and some FB who is 250 lbs as UDFA.   Then absolutely pound the other teams with an unstoppable rushing attack of 150 ypg.   It opens up play action for the passing game and allows Sam Darnold to just be a caretaker, game-manager QB.

I hate him.  I really hate him.  No one will reach Hurney status but this guy is carving out his own special place in my heart.

You know it occurs to me that Rod Marinelli might actually make sense for the DL, and not just because he's a great coach.

I'd have to look it up to be sure, but I think Marinelli was in Detroit while Phil Snow was coaching there.

Let’s wait until our huddle expert and trusted source Ellis has to say first before jumping to any conclusions

Two of those were expected. Okam is a surprise.

That's actually the second time Rhule has fired his DL coach. Guess we're gonna have a new one every year.

Yeah Okam was unexpected for sure. This was his 1st year as DL coach and it seems unfair as there were bigger problem areas. The Panthers run D needs a full evaluation and perhaps a fresh perspective is needed there.

While the OL coach needs to go. These firings feel like a, look I am making changes but not really, moves.
Like Ron in 2018.

Yeah 100% agree, fortunately other than the DL fire, which I don't really know was on the DL coach for our containment issues on 3rd down, these were all solid fires. Wish there was a way for us to get Eric Washington back for the D-Line, even tho he was horrific at DC.

It’s a start.

the proof will be in the hirings. I think if Rhule hires a competent OC that can attract a quality staff and is more hands off on the offensive side of the ball then I can get behind this.

I don’t know how this will be possible. This isn’t a coach with NFL connections or pedigree. And if you look around that’s what the majority of NFL coaches have and who they bring in.

That is a major reason college coaches for the most part don’t work.

Knowing that, the best candidates will look at the overall state of the team to choose to come it. It is their choice after all.

So no oline, no qb, a solid 2 and whiny 500 years bitch sideshow Bob diva at wr injured hb, lame duck coach with poor ability and draft without sure franchise qbs, with only 1 pick in top 100 no less

Tgere is absolutely zero reason one of the best coordinators want to come here. Just like Watson and Stafford and other players we will inevitably hear about this year.

The only single reason I can think of is money. But that will still eliminate a lot of candidates that want to win which is a negative.

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.
    • 13. Carolina is coming. The Panthers are well thought of around the league. Their "process" seems sound. I think their off-season will be very interesting to keep an eye on. They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
