I’ve just started watching film, but reading scouting reports the information makes these two seem very similar. Late-bloomers, not elite arm strength but surgical precision and accuracy with just enough athleticism to make plays out of the pocket. I’m just wondering what really separates them? Like, why couldn’t Pickett be a similar player if he lands in a good situation?

Burrow had better stats/wins, but a much more talented roster. Then there is hand size, but that is overblown. The same people that complain about Rhule talking about arm length for a LT will talk about hand size for a QB.

I've actually seen a couple analysts recently start to draw that comparison.  I haven't seen enough to convince me yet, and I hate that there is a Rhule connection, but I'm open to see more.  I don't hate the kid . . . he might be the real deal.

But I DO hate the idea of this staff being charged with his development.

Preach, I could have been sold slightly if you got Pep here but that’s not going to happen. I also firmly believe if you commit to a guy like that you have to build in a similar fashion, aka the next draft your first pick better be WR or OL

Build an OL and I don’t have a problem taking a swing on Pickett. But they better not take Pickett and think they’re gonna protect him with 3rd-4th rounders and bargain bin FA. 
 

As far as the difference. The competition in college was a major one. Pitt lost to Western Michigan and Miami. They had basically two good wins. Clemson and Tennessee. Wake’s defense was absolute garbage this year. I’m not impressed with that win. Then the BIGGEST disappointment to me was that he didn’t even play against Michigan St. If he had been able to go out there and torch a big10 defense then I think he could have made a case to go #2 overall to the Lions (or whoever traded for him).

This is the problem with QB evaluation, people keep looking for tangible traits, its not that easy.

Alot of guys can make a throw but can the QB see the throws.  3rd and 9 and 1st read is covered, why does Brady throw it where he does whereas a bad QB tries a different throw.  

Different guys definitely have more tools but the processing is the biggest ability.

Yep. You're looking for a QB, not just a thrower of the football. There probably a LOT of third rate baseball pitchers who can throw a better ball than most QBs but they aren't QBs.

      I feel like this trade just lives rent free in people's heads and keeps morphing into different things. First thing is that the rumored trade was for future firsts. They wouldn't have any extra picks in 2023; the firsts would have been for 2024 and 2025. With very few exceptions, NFL GMs don't value picks that far away. You have to have a lot of job security to pull that off. Like Chiefs, Eagles, Rams kinda stability. That's obviously not the case with David Tepper, especially since he'd just fired his head coach. No GM except for like Howie Roseman is going to trade an asset you have now for a future asset you probably get to use.  Second, at the time you'd have to assume these are first rounders late in the first round. Obviously currency is currency and the panthers need young players, but these weren't slam dunk top ten picks. At the end of the day there's one pick that separates a first and second round pick.  Lastly, the only place that ever reported this trade was the Rams. All the reporters just repeated what McVay said and it became gospel. We have no idea how serious the negotiations were, if they ever really happened, if the offer was real, etc. And I personally believe McVay and Sneed are the kind of guys who would make up rumors like that to fug up other teams, mostly because I assume if I've thought of it someone smarter than me has.  I don't know how you'd call it the greatest draft haul of all time. Firsts quickly lose their value the farther out they are and Burns had 16.5 sacks last season. And anyway those picks would probably just been tossed into the burning inferno of the Bryce trade up so it's a moot point anyway.
