What is Rhule going to give up for Jimmy G?

Recommended Posts

We don't have enough assets in the draft to make run for Jimmy G. even if we wanted to (which most of us don't). And as someone pointed out, the 2023 draft choices should be untouchable unless it'something like a 5th, 6th, or 7th rounder choice.

Now if Jimmy got cut, that changes things. I'd consider signing him to a 3 year deal if the terms were reasonable and use this draft/offseason to address the O-line for 2022. If a promising prospect was on the board in round 5,6, or 7 then I'd take them and let PJ go. I would even consider letting Sam go and taking the cap hit.

I'd prefer trying to get a better prospect for QB in the 2023 class. If our 2023 picks are intact we could afford to move up and take a guy and get him ready to assume the starting job by 2024/2025.

Thing is, I don't think Jimmy would want to come here. In fact I don't know why any veteran QB would want to play in Carolina unless it's their last chance to get starting job or roster spot. We've mismanaged so poorly since Rhule arrived that I think I'd rather ride with Sam in 2022. This would likely result in Rhule getting fired and allowing a new group of coaches to come in and right the ship. Then again, maybe...just maybe...McAdoo can make Sam a serviceable guy who can hold things down until we can draft a guy next year.

Probably going to take our 1st … maybe they flip jimmy g and 3rd to us for our 1st … At this point he is just a major upgrade hell it could be more then the 1st rounder… plus rumored raiders asking price for carr is 2 1sts…..

we need a qb no matter what … hopefully it’s resolved before draft cuz if not … our highest pick will probably be a qb ……

That’s what the 49ers needed in the last 1:46 on Sunday, with the faint hopes of knotting the score with a field goal or in their wildest dreams, putting the game away with a 75-yard touchdown drive. Instead, San Francisco got two things: A drive that featured an incompletion, a reception for -3 yards and an interception. And a titanic reminder that Garoppolo is a quarterback problem, not a solution

Pretty straight forward damning assessment of Jimmy G not being the guy, and the 49ers already knew it a year ago

It's more likely Lance gets traded.

LOL what?  They just traded 3 first round picks for him last season.  No way in Hell does Lance get traded.  They've mortgaged their future for the guy.  He has not had a chance to even show them what he can do yet.  Why would they trade him and keep Jimmy G?

Yeah.  Jimmy G would have had to go full Joe Flacco and play at a high level, and win the Super Bowl for that to be the case.

I am an Ole Miss graduate.  1983.  So I am a little Biased.   I think whoever you get needs to be accurate.  Unbelievable accuracy is what made Brees so powerful.

the question I have is, “How accurate is JG”.

BTW -  Matt Corral will most likely be available when it is the Panthers to choose, in the draft.  Matt took Ole Miss to their 1st ever 10 win season.  He has broken many of Eli Manning’s records.  He is extremely accurate.

I think he is worth, at least a look.

That interception was 100% on the receiver.

Jimmy G is exactly what we don't want. Instead of 5-12, we'd be 8-9.....worse draft pick to actually find a QB/OL in '23 and saddled with another QB on a high contract.

He's better than Darnold and Teddy, but in a way that a Hyundai is an upgrade over a Kia (no offense to any Hyundai/Kia drivers).

Pass.

    • Sure it does, maybe not every position and not every draft.  You have to admit the hit rate goes down the further in the draft you get.  Would you more readily find a generational talent at the #2 pick or #19 pick?  High picks are considered "busts" if they doesn't pan out, whereas guys drafted later don't have that level of scrutiny upon them.  Different expectation levels.  If Styles does indeed go #2, I already listed the rarefied air that he would be in.  Maybe he doesn't set the League on fire, but my gut feeling is he does.  Again, you don't take an off-ball LB #2 if he is just a 'really good' player.
    • To illustrate my point, I watched (and commented on the Huddle) that Rozeboom would often wait a full second (or close to it) before taking his first step.  I assume that he probably had issues with false steps, a faulty practice that can take an ILB out of the gap completely.  Watch Luke and you see a step with the snap, and rarely was it a false step.  Rozeboom may have had 100 tackles (speculating) but initial contact was 2-3 yards on the defensive side of the ball.  Luke's 100 tackles were made 1-2 yards from the LOS.  Over the course of a year, Luke was much more productive (more fumbles, fewer long gainers, more OL penalties, fewer first downs, etc) that Rozeboom, but on the stat sheet, they both had 100 tackles.  In fact, Rozeboom's inefficiency kept him on the field more (more first downs, fewer OL penalties, turnovers, and punts) so he should have MORE tackles.   I would like to see stats that break down those things.   For example again, Josh Norman was slow--4.68 or so at CB.  However, his anticipation speed was incredible.  He made as many plays as a 4.4 CB.  I had one coach (college--later became the head coach at WCU) tell me that slower players have to use their brains more to still be around.  Elite athletes can just get by on their physical superiority.  He added, "Rarely does a football player run full speed.  Most of the time, they are not, so the 40 time is misleading stat.  Smart players overcome shortcomings--when the elite athlete becomes average (slows with age, advances in level of competition) they struggle against smarter (football IQ) competition.
    • Obviously tongue in cheek hyperbole. But we do not need a first round RB to compete for a championship. We need intelligent roster building. That to me is the complete opposite of intelligent roster building because it is a prime resource at a devalued plug and play position when we have needs across the defense.
