Anyway that makes sense.  These decisions can’t be made in a vacuum. Unfortunately, that seems to be what’s happened over the past few years. 
 

I am not okay with another Matt Kalil deal. 
 

draft bpa at a position of need.

Our cap is actually crap now.  I'm not sure when that happened or how.  I remember earlier in the season looking at it and thinking, yea, we're in great shape for 2022 free agency.  But somehow, we now have only 17 million in cap room - good for 17th in the league.

That's barely enough room to fill the roster with actual players.  RIght now, player #22 on our roster (cap value) is Chuba.  Below him it's all JAGs and futures contracts.  We have no second or third round pick.

Somehow, we've managed to put ourselves in position to be even worse next year than this year.  It's an amazing accomplishment for Coach 1000.

Let's make two lists. The first list can be all the Panthers FA OL acquisitions in the last decade that turned out to be good moves.

The second will be all the Panthers FA OL acquisitions that turned out to be bad or spending money just to tread water.

List one: Michael Oher....maybe

List two: Literally every other FA acquisition.

We just watched a Super Bowl in which the team leading at halftime was shut down in the 4th quarter due largely to their substandard Oline's inability to protect the QB when it mattered most.  The Bengals probably hit the Super Bowl a year before they expected to on the strength of outstanding young skill position players, but despite the Oline being the team's obvious weak link, and the fact they should have plenty of money to spend in FA because all that talent is on rookie deals, I'll bet you dollars to donuts that Cincy can't improve it's Oline this offseason through FA, only through the draft.

We're in the same boat except we don't have Joe Burrow, Joe Mixon and a bunch of outstanding receivers. We've got...

umm...

the guy who reportedly told Eli Apple he would never play in the NFL again when he cut him.

The only way to fix the Oline that has any reasonable chance of success is the draft, and we don't have the draft capital to do it in one offseason. Buckle up folks, it ain't gonna be fun for a while. The team gambled and lost on various trades, so here we sit with gaping problems and no real means to fix them any time soon. Embrace the suck, it's gonna be here a while.

This. Today is the first time I've been on these forums in a couple months, and it's not because most of you smell funny.

Okay it's not ONLY because most of you smell funny. It's because I've followed the team since the first year and right now the future feels worse than it's ever felt as a Panthers fan. Rhule and Co. have so thoroughly destroyed my passion for football lately that except for the Super Bowl, I missed an outstanding playoffs because I just didn't want to even think about football for a while because my team's situation is so depressing.

I honestly have no idea how people in places like Cleveland endured whole decades of poo like this and still stayed engaged with the team and the sport overall. It has to be some sports fan version of Stockholm Syndrome or something. I just have got better things to do with my life than spend time and energy following and engaging blatant incompetence, even to criticize it.

David Tepper, let me know when you're no longer running an organization actively destroying my love of the game. Til then I've got better things to do with my life than watch you and the clowns you've hired try to figure it out.

This is considered to b a great draft for offensive linemen.

 

 

 

So naturally, we won't get any of them 😕

Not gonna bother to go back and research it, but it feels like every time I've heard somebody say "this is a great draft for Position X", we've largely ignored Position X.

Just as it has speculated that Rhule was told to get some real NFL coaches I have to hope that he is not going to have full control of the roster.  That is a big wish I know.  Has Tepper seen the light and decided that hIs NFL people need to be making the big decisions?  Just trying to find a way to have some hope.

      this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.

      The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.

      My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
