When I watch Sam last year I was impressed the same way.  Not to say Howell will be a HOFer but I got the same gut feeling when I saw Brees. 

Brees is the guy he considers his football idol

I know you are a Howell fan, and I believe I’ve read you post that you think he can be a good NFL QB down the road. I understand the frustration with the current state of the Panthers, but why would you want someone who you believe will be a good QB to NOT come to Panthers to, hopefully, help turn them around? Of course, this question is from the perspective of giving Howell time to develop versus throwing him into the fire next year.

Howell, the former North Carolina star, also had a lackluster showing. “He was spotty,” said the NFL QB coach. “He didn’t throw it great, and he was in the ‘not as good’ group (of QBs). He seems maxed out. People like to compare him to Baker (Mayfield), but he doesn’t have Baker’s arm. Baker was super accurate; Sam’s pretty good, but I’m not sure. That offense he played in was so RPO-heavy. I look at him and Pickett and I wonder, how much better can they get?”

Because I have zero confidence in Tepper building and maintaining a competent football organization. Everything I've seen so far over four years suggests quite the opposite.

It is a bad lading spot for any of these kids. Its an entirely new level of pressure on them to perform right out of the gate.  The pro game takes a much stronger mental makeup and commitment than the college game. Then you fact in an incompetent staff to help them transition? Good luck.

Its so difficult to predict who has a chance to transition and who cannot beyond the obvious guys like Cam. The most recent example would be Lawrence but the jury is still out on him, mainly due to the team he's on. Beyond those guys it's anyone's guess.

Personally, I think he would be the best choice for the franchise. He is the best deep ball passer in this draft. Last year, with depleted talent around him, he used his legs. In 2020, he didn't have to and had a much better statistical year. The kid is a gritty player and doesn't have a quit attitude. However, don't give him the keys. Sign a qb like Fitz to show the kid the ropes. Not a drama mama. Or even better yet sign Tyrod and hurt him...the last 4 guys are all looking pretty salty lol. I wonder how many qbs would have never been drafted with these "science" analytics. Old saying rings true...not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. Plus being the local kid would rejuvenate a fan base.

      I mean, you see the games on the first page right? 167, 235, 171, 121, 103 etc etc. Am I a tad small? I guess if we are needing perfection, but hey this is a BY thread....... Id say in the majority he does have around 100 yards for 55 minutes, does that help? Just like the numbers they reflect hes playd very poor in nearly 85% of those game leading into the final minutes. I will also give this, he could had more GWDs if not for the defense choking.  I feel this is sooooo very clear to people that watch the games. Even the pure only 100% BY fans or his relatives should be able to see this as well.

      you always push in to the weird position of defending people I dont really like, but you don’t know any employee is a bad fit until it plays out. A lot of folks here were excited when Rhule was hired. He’s clearly good at selling himself, he keeps landing head‑coaching jobs. We also don’t know that Tepper was the driving force behind picking Bryce. The general feeling at the time is that he was the best player, The Teppers part is mostly rumor we’ve treated like fact. And it was 3–4 years ago. Most of us have changed our minds on Bryce like ten times since. Lastly I don’t think he’s calling the shots anymore. He seems looped in, not leading. I worked for the Panthers for about eight months, and I almost never saw him in the office. Dan Morgan and Brandt were there every day. That’s anecdotal, not proof but it suggests Dan is doing most of the work. if you asked me today if the Panthers are going to pay Bryce, I dont see it. He has not played well enough to heavily invest in him.
