Thanks for the recap.  I acknowledged the reasoning for the metric, I just think jumping ability isn't very applicable to the success of a NFL QB.  A good athletic QB does not necessarily mean a successful NFL QB.  I mean, what were Tom Brady's numbers?  Pretty putrid I would assume.

This is how I would label the top 5 traits of a successful NFL QB.

1) Cerebral

2) Accurate

3) Film junky

4) Arm strength

5) Overall athletic ability

Mine would be as follows...

- Football intelligence

- Ability to read a defense

- Ability to make quick decisions

- Passing accuracy

Those are non-negotiable. Anything on top of that adds to them, but if they don't have those things I'm not interested.

I've never understood the fascination with QB pro days. I don't see how a QB throwing to WR's under ideal conditions with no pass rush or DB's on the field reveals anything about the guy that you can't see on game tape. Great QB's can throw under duress and have the ability to place the ball into tight windows when needed. I'm sure there are people on this board who can make the throws during a pro day, but would totally flame out in game situation.

Jamarcus Russel, Kyle Boller, Sam Bradford all had "the best pro day ever" at some point in time time...and I don't think any of them ever led a team to the playoffs. As a GM, I'd never make a draft decision based on a pro day performance.

Yes.

No he isn't, he is a better prospect, that will most likely become a better QB in time, but Minshews best NFL seasons are better than Lawrences best NFL seasons.

What you have done on the field and what people expect you to do at some point are two different things and until Lawrance does that he isn't better.

With that being said I'm sure 32 out of 32 teams would take Lawrance but that doesn't mean he was better than Minshew in his rookie season, and likewise not drafting any QB because you don't expect him to be better than Minshew in their rookie season is dumb.

IMO, the video clips are for the fans...much more important is the chance to spend a LOT of time with him. his coach, his teammates, hell, can even speak with a professor or two.

At this point anyone looking at him should know about his arm...what they may not know is what's between his ears.

Chunking it deep to your favorite pass catcher isn't important to me at all, then again, I'm not Al Davis or Matt Rhule.

I stand by my point. Just a bunch of nerds jizzing over something not quantifiable being boiled down to a stat. It means nothing.

Dalton's worst rushing year in college was equivalent to Pickett's best rushing year. They both exhibited the same type of escapability: neither very good at stepping up through pressure, but both like to leak out to the side and have the mobility to make a team either pay a little bit or the accuracy on the move to make a throw.

Lol you bring up rushing yards but ignore passing yards. Why are you even stating how many rushing yards they have as they is just a stat that is meaningless to you. Like I stated earlier Pickett uses his legs to extend plays to make his passes (go compare passing yards to Dalton’s since you are with rushing). You don’t want him we get it, but you really can’t justify why other than your heard he was like Andy Dalton somewhere. Andy Dalton couldn’t get off his first option and go through progressions. So his weakness was actually a strength of Pickett. Plus he couldn’t get the ball downfield which Pickett has shown he can.

Does not have Derek carrs arm imo. I’ve seen Carr bomb 70 yard passes.

No he doesn't, A more athletic Andy Dalton wouldn't be a bad comparison tbh. I've seen some say Derek Carr with less of an arm and some say Prime Andy Dalton but more athletic, I still say take a chance on Willis. NFL combine recommendations had him rated higher then Pickett but just barely

    • I want the conversations at season's end to be more about what else we need to build onto the foundation to be playoff contenders and less about the fultility of drafting yet another QB and hiring yet another coach because as long as Tepper is the owner, it doesn't matter what this team does.
