I think Neal is #1 on most boards, but Ekwonu is not a consistent 2, although Ekwonu may be #1 on some, it's all team/coach/scheme dependent. 

There's a handful who are all about having more of the big bendable frame at the left with less looseness in pass protection.  Ekwonu gets a bit careless/sloppy but Penning is going to be very difficult to get around and will have little issue with having the bend down pat at his size in pass protection.  He's going to be an issue.  Ekwonu better overall right now, Penning, higher ceiling, athleticism+size combo with better pass protection and handwork.    

Just the whispers on my end.  (Which is basically SF and Indy FOs)

Ain’t no way we like Penning over Icky. I hope that’s a smokescreen because that is just dumb. Icky is younger and has proven more on the college level and is just the better overall prospect.

I haven't scouted many prospects this year - I just don't have the time / will to do so.

I've briefly looked at the top OTs and QBs.

There's just something off about Neal. Take this play:

A man that big shouldn't be getting bodied like that. He was the #1 OT coming out of HS (#7 overall player) and he's received the best coaching in College. (there's a blatant hold on the long TD pass at 2:10 too)

With his size, athleticism and the coaching he's received he SHOULD be absolutely dominant, and I just don't see it. I think, much like coming out of HS, he's being ranked on the fact that he's the first guy off the bus rather than his on-field play.

He tends to struggle at times with big DEs when they bull rush. He's not quite as powerful as you'd think he would be for a guy his size. His selling point is his excellent precise technique, quick hands and feet, getting into his set fast, timing when he shoots his hands perfectly, hand fighting, attention to detail, and some other great qualities. When it comes down to pure power in a dogfight with a big DE he doesn't dominate like you would hope given his mammoth size.

      The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.

      My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.

      Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
