Ironic...Gettleman came here to clean up Hurney's mess, then he goes off to the Giants to create his own mess that their new GM has to come in and clean up.  The circle of life.  Poor Joe Schoen has his work cut out for him...what a disaster Gettleman was in NY.

With how it ended, Im too honest- Gettleman was worse than Herniay. No idea what happen, but he over-spent and drafted very poorly while giants GM. During his giant era, no team had better draft value in terms of picks. He wasted them on #2Barkley, #6Jones, #30Baker, and #33Hernandez. Just the whole group is awful, some even traded before bustin. First rounder Baker was cut year two, he traded(i think) a second to move up for him. Even talks of trading last years first rounder koney...... Even his 2-4 round picks were terrible. His free agent signing are the same or worse. They are in cap hell too. Thats bad whens theres no talent.....At least herniay yo-yo'd win seasons loss seasons, nyc dave was just a loser and that division was begging to be won.

It's hard to argue against the success of Gettleman's tenure here; his run as the Panthers' GM was objectively much more successful than Hurney's.  But if you're able to evaluate his individual performance as GM within the scope of his actual role, it gets a little more muddied.  People discredit Hurney's 1st round picks and say it's so easy to draft superstars in the 1st round, in particular the top 10...and yet look at those 1st round picks you've highlighted lol.  Also if you evaluate their entire body of work as an NFL GM, Hurney never had anywhere close to as bad of a 4-year stretch as Gettleman's in NY (19-46 overall).

I absolutely believe that Gettleman being hampered by our abysmal salary cap and not being able to afford to shop at Tiffany's was a blessing in disguise.  It seems like with the Panthers and Giants, the more money and flexibility Gettleman had, the more harm he did to his team.  His one big money FA signing for the Panthers?  Matt Kalil.

But yeah they both sucked, bottom line.

Yea panther Dave > Herniay

NYG&panther Dave <<< Herniay

Ruin them and had no success in a weak division. Panthers got awful old right after Dave got fired.....thats partly on him(tho he wanted to get rid of TD and olsen and that was right, 100% as it pains). NYG are just in awful shape and no reason for that to be. Again they had decent/good cap space and the best draft capital in the league. He failed both and left them without talent, no QB, and in the bloodly red. His WR choices should got him kicked out of USA.... Picked the wrong hawg hollies- had the choice pick of LTs and thus far picked the worse one(4th overall btw).

Im enjoying both Finssserererers drafts and one of his FA hauls. Love how modern and aggressive he is. Dave and Herniay refused to do busniess with certain teams/GM....not the same the new guy.

DG was so bad it made Hurney look good to Richardson.

Yeah he was a good zone CB in his prime but with Horn, Henderson, and yeah even Donte Jackson we're built to run a man scheme

I am really really excited to see what this group of three can do if they are all healthy.

He didn't wash out. He was cut because of his cap hit.

He wouldn't have been a cap casualty of he was worth the money or a restructuring. He was not. I.E washed up. I'm sure he will probably do well with Rivera again. He's never been elite but he can be a reliable CB in a zone system.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
