If Baker comes in and plays like he did the year before last, you have to seriously consider signing him to a long term deal and making him our franchise QB.  Hes got the talent to take a middling team to the playoffs.

But can you trust him to be that guy consistently?

In fairness, if he does light it up here that would be a big feather in his cap. It's a far worse overall team than he was ever on in Cleveland.

Yea that would be great, so instead of wasting our 2nd round pick, 4th rounder, and 6th rounder on a QB last season, we could have wasted our first on a QB who was just as shitty last season. That is not good team building.

Just to recap a 1st,2nd,4th,and 6th and still no answer at QB.....yea thanks but no thanks.

Who is talking about a first for Mayfield?!?!

If this will help Corral, then do it. If not, then don’t. I’m tired of these bandaid QBs.

Well Corral also might not be the answer. He was a 3rd round(likely would have been 4th) QB.

You really expect them to put all their eggs in that basket?

They better be scouting next year's qb class hard. I would be taking a qb regardless of what Corral does this season.

For real.  If we get Baker in here and only have to pay him like 5 million dollars this season, thats about as big a win as you could possibly ask for.

Agreed. The guy is a jackass but he has legit talent and maybe a big slice of humble pie is what he needs. I mean, Aaron Rodgers is a huge jackass too but he has the elite talent to get away with it. Not calling Mayfield a Rodgers level talent by any means, just staying that jackassery isn't necessarily a total deal breaker.

Some people REALLY let their emotions cloud their judgement when it comes to evaluating a player.  Especially QBs.

Yes they do. OR how many commercials a guy has been in.

Having 15 TV commercials does not make you a good QB.

To be fair, last year wasn't his only bad year. He's been an every other year player.

That's probably the biggest reason why everyone is steering clear. He's insanely inconsistent. Even by gunslinger standards.

year two they handed the keys to the franchise to Freddie Kitchens, who was in over his head.

2020 they brought in Kevin Stefanski and went to the playoffs for the first time in a generation.

Baker then got hurt and played through an injury all season in 2021. Still had a better season than he did under Freddie Kitchens.

Baker is by no means a generational talent, but he's good enough to take a team to the playoffs.

He would be an immediate upgrade to our QB room.

My only concern is how badly we would get shafted if we traded for him.

My personal opinion is that we should roll with Corral regardless. Hit the reset button next season if need be and move on from Rhule if we miss the playoffs again.

Very true.  Agreed.  Actually, when a QB starts making commercials, he usually starts going down hill on the field.  Aaron Rodgers not withstanding.

    • I mean I just don't understand the argument. Baker and Sam both have been pro bowl QBs post their time here. And you just said yourself that is due to him having a damn good roster around him and they are well coached. You're even saying the bad baker is still there somewhere, but he is in a good organization with good roster and coaching that they are getting the best out of him. Why does Baker and Sam get all that benefit of the doubt but when it comes to Bryce it must be a BY9 problem, not an org or team problem?  Hell I got a guy below you arguing with me that Chark/Hurst/Mingo sucked because Bryce wouldn't throw them open. It's ridiculous how far the stretch goes.
    • Correct.  It’s really hard to get open in the NFL when opposing defenses gameplan and cheat coverage/routes on all your players because they know your QB can’t make certain throws/plays.   magically no one that comes to Carolina can get open or make plays with the ball in their hands…..it’s like there is one singular common dominator to it all.  BY makes playing defense way too easy.   NFL players are too good to allow one side to cheat coverage and not respect all the potential threats of a route  so you can dial up a great play.  But if corners and safeties just cheat coverage and know X and Y happening on route/threats….getting open gets hard when they just play it one way.  Getting open has a lot to do with the different threats a WR can pose on a given play.
    • Kinda depends how you look at it both were 3rd round draft pics.  Nico was nothing before stroud and tank came in with stroud.  If both were on the panthers would young have them doing well and starting or would their stats be low.  I really dont know the answer to that.  None of the panthers wrs have left and did well either but personally i feel neither of nico or tank would do much on the panthers.
