Baker Mayfield is a Carolina Panther

Plus if we extend Baker off one year of play we just went through this whole "rebuild" without ever getting to Fitts philosophy of drafting a cheap QB to build around for a 4-5 year window. If we have no intentions of extending him it's also a waste of time, unless it shows Tepper that Rhule is the problem, not the 6 qb's he's trotted out on the field.

Like I said, this is worst case scenario, we are going to extend this jackass based on average play

Seems like just yesterday Fitt was bragging about scouting wilson, drafting him and then turning him loose into a franchise qb.

YOUR biggest complaint is that we got better.  You are concerned we might extend Baker for having a good year.  My God you are just complaining and contradicting yourself while doing so.  Did we not get better?  Then Baker will be a FA next year and only cost us a late round pick.

Did we? How much better? A game?

Again, I worry about our lack of foresight. We only went Iky and FA OL wild because we took two years to come up with the worst OL there was. Your other post about the 2018 draft is cringeworthy.

I understand Mayfield is an improvement but we are on QB4 in 3 years who have been told by other organizations that they aren’t starter worthy. If we aren’t prioritizing our future QB situation, that’s another gigantic red flag because no one aside from us is thinking that 5-12 Carolina plus Mayfield is a legit playoff team.

I think the main priority right now is to save Matt Rhule's ass.

(at least according to Matt Rhule)

It's pretty easy.

Baker Mayfield makes watching Panther Football bearable again. If Darnold was the starter this year, the panthers stadium would be a ghost town and if anyone did show up, would be just to boo him.  Best case scenario, Mayfield plays lights out and we found a great quarterback. Worst Case: He is here for 1 year that cost 5 million dollars.

So many crybabies complaining that they actually get to watch a competent football team this season for peanuts is laughable. Mayfield, McCafferey, new improvised O-line, along with our WR's, I am hype for this season!!

6-12-6-6  Yearly wins for baker.  Thats bearable to you?

Which is my argument all along, it shouldnt have gotten to this point where we are fuging trading for Baker even after the Darnold and teddy disasters.  It was a fuged plan from the jump and keeps getting fuged as we go forward.

fair enough

I assume that's his wins per season. To be fair... the question only asked about 2020, and I doubt he accomplishes that former glory. I simply say that if he plays like a starter, he should get paid as a starter. It's up to him whether he does that this season.

We got marginally better compared to sam fuging darnold however its in the short term.  This doesnt do jack poo in regards to our long term goal and team building.   So what the fuging point is having Baker on a one year deal if we are going to let him walk?  This doesnt make sense but then again I am arguing with a dude that defend signing teddy and trading for Darnold.

Baker is not a franchise qb and there are now 4 years worth of data to prove it.

I defended Teddy and Darnold?  I thought Teddy was a stop gap QB and wanted us to draft Fields even with Darnold.  Mr Scot and I argued about Fields vs Slater (he wanted Slater).  I didn't trust Darnold and wanted us to still draft Fields even after the trade.  You just want to complain over a low risk trade.  You were just posting about how difficult it will be is Baker beats out his 2020 season?  If he does that we are not "marginally" better.  I'm not as high on Baker as I am how little we have up to acquire him. If the worst thing we did this offseason is acquire a mid-level starting QB for $5 million dollars and a conditional 5th, then we had a decent offseason.

A rookie QB looking competent is one way to do that without making the playoffs. If Corral looks decent even in losses and the OL looks like it’s coming together, that would check our biggest boxes this year even if we didn’t go to the playoffs. Mayfield, as I mentioned above, means playoffs or fired.

Didn't say it was a good plan...

Either way, I don't think Rhule has a lot of faith in rookie QBs. His comments about Fields last year were a clue to that.

Par for the course, it's a checkers move in a chess game.

    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
    • Well, if they know Tepper wants to keep Bryce there is an an implied safety net there in case he fails. A possibility that he will be empathetic and •maybe• not fire them.  If they go against that and bring in someone else and that fails they are in a much worse spot.  IMO.  And another factor may be that after all those years of instability and musical chairs pre Bryce there will likely be a feeling of security in knowing what they have.   Kind of like settling just to keep from going through the process all over again.     IOW I think he really needs to fug up bad to lose his job and change our course.
