Is Baker Mayfield too sort.

Cheap clickbait there by ESPN. It's not about his height. It's about the Browns D-line being really good and Joe Wood building his line's game plan around getting their hands up if they can't get home. He was probably staring his receivers down a little because his playbook knowledge isn't quite there yet.

Look at the Saints, it can be done.

The problem is you need to rethink the conversational "must have a all pro blindside protector". You need three awesome internal guys too have the lanes open both for throws and for stepping up. You can let your tackles force the ends to the outside to buy a second and not worry about them getting beat. Decent journeymen can do this.

The good news is that guards and centers are cheap(ish), so this is doable over two drafts/fa periods.

The bad news is I have zero fate in our current staff pulling this off.

And, you need to adopt your offence to this which is another bad news due to the fate in our staff.

I've watched Baker a lot.  He's gone through some pretty amazing stretches of football, and then gone through some awful stretches.  His inconsistency probably has a lot to do with the myriad of different systems in his short career as well as suffering through what should have been season ending injuries last year.  My sense is that he looks like a promising (old) young QB who just hasn't taken it to that next level yet.  I think having passes batted down and comfort in the pocket is all part of that.  And I have no idea what kind of progress we'll get from him this season.  Ideally he would get 2 healthy seasons in the same system at some point in his career.  Carolina probably does not have the short term stability or patience to go through the growing pains and get to a 2nd season either.

Most of us think he should have been grown in 4years with the Browns.

Still lacks discipline. He'll never be Brees because of that. He'd have a lot of catching up to do in that respect.

I'd much rather watch our rookie QB make mistakes he may actually learn from them. Obviously the thick skull on Baker prevents that.

I personally don't have the patience for wayward veteran QBs.

I think it's also coaching.  He had a great year with Ken Zampese and then two years  later with Stefanski.  He actually looked like a top 6 QB before the injury last season, but there were certainly issues.  Either way, he now has a very small window to get it figured out.

I liked Matt Corral coming out, but he looked like he needed to hold a clipboard for a season, which to me makes it a strange pick.  The injury is unfortunate, it's very likely that the panthers are drafting a QB in round 1 of the draft, and that doesn't leave room for another inexperienced rookie.

Brees had a career 65+% accuracy and many 70% completion games. That man was obsessed. The Cleveland press said Baker had his head up his ass for years. THEY said in conclusion he was too short, too slow, too cocky. He may be more humble but what they already know ain't something the QB guru Matt Rhule can fix that's for sure.

Yeah...the Cleveland media are well known for their accurate assessments of athletes ( rolling my eyes )

In 58 starts with the Chargers Brees had a 62.2 completion percentage, 12k yards, 80 TDs and 53 interceptions.

In 59 starts for the Browns Baker had a 61.6% completion percentage, 14k yards, 92 TDs and 56 interceptions.

They both hurt their shoulders and were sent to the NFL south.

That certainly doesn't mean Baker's career will equal Brees, that is unlikely. What it does say is that there isn't any reason to lose faith in Baker being like Brees because the beginning of their careers are almost identical. Well, Bress was replaced with a sex addict that stayed home while Baker was replaced with a sex addict that went after dozens of women who had to try to fight him off.

    • Completely agreed.  TBH, we have had so many great players that are in my favorite list, and I hate to narrow it down to one, but Cam is it.  Which is crazy, because you would think it would be more of the guys I grew up watching, but no.  Cam was the single most impactful player to ever out on a football uniform imo.  And like I said in an earlier post, I always felt a kinship with him in a lot of ways…  the way he was treated and judged for the off the field stuff in Florida and having to overcome all of that and fight show at back.  And although I am not a black man, I have always been welcomed by and accepted more by minorities, and thus, I know what it’s like to be judged by appearances rather than the content of your character and who you actually are.  I know what it’s like to be stereotyped and written off or mistreated for your mistakes.  I know what it’s like to be held to a different standard while your peers don’t have to meet that same standard.  So I always related to that.  And the way he came in and just electrified the whole franchise, man…  I still think about it often how much it sucks that because of how talented he was, our staff out so much on him and that ultimately cut his career short.  You’re right, there will never be another Cam…  I think Josh Allen is the closest thing we will see for a long time, but Allen is not the running threat Cam was.  Cam could run you over or around you.  That was THE absolute funnest time to watch our team ever.
    • It definitely needs more specificity than is baked in now.
    • The weirdest encounter I had with a pro athlete was waiting in line at security at Mile High Stadium when I used to get the company suite tickets almost every week because I was the only employee based in Colorado. There's a small checkpoint accessing the suites that virtually no one knows about that you can usually squirt right through. I was standing there and looked over my shoulder and there stands John fuging Elway waiting in line behind me.  This was during the The Golden Calf of Bristol season right before he became GM. I just said "They make YOU go through security?" He's like "Yeah, ain't that a bitch. I literally have a statue out front and I gotta go through security like everybody else." I've heard mixed things about him but he was super nice and down to earth with me that day.
