Give me some hope. Can this offense be turned around?

We'll see.  Either the O is going to get its act together, or its true that the NFL has figured out McAdoo's O  while he was in NY.   It didn't work well when he became HC.

For signs of hope, we've seen flashes and we've started out against a couple of good D's.   Many problem areas should improve with time.  Ickey is a rookie, the OL is still gelling, Baker is learning McAdoo's O and  Baker is out of sync with the receivers.    Even in McAdoo's good years in NY, his O didn't come roaring out of the gate, it took a few weeks to get traction.

I guess we'll see.

Wilks is the reason we’ve been employing zone coverage looks more often “to try and create interceptions”

rhule said as much during a presser last week

Personally I’ve always hated zone, especially when Horn supposed to excel at being a press corner. Use players to their strengths is what I say. Doesn’t help that Snow uses a college defense.

I think our offense isn't maximizing what we do well. Why is CMC not lining up in the slot and terrorizing opposing linebackers. Why aren't we using trips right or left and running picks and smoke routes. Why don't we give Baker layup passes early to build his confidence.  McAdoo and Baker aren't on the same page yet and frankly the receivers need to do a lot more to help Baker out. The Saints receivers were snagging balls out of the off and off the turf and our guys dropped passes hitting them in the hand.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I feel that Baker seems to be under pressure a lot. Yes our run game has improved but is that because we have CMC?

Jmo all RB are making plus plays behind this Oline..

And Baker is playing with happy feet and not knowing the system could be a part of that.. But he has had time..

Unlike all the crybabies that want us to lose so that they can write juvenile open letters to David Tepper, I'm trying to remain hopeful here.

Can our offense turn it around? Can the OL gel? Can Baker get it together? Give me a few reasons to think it's a possibility.

Also, is Darnold still alive? Is he even on the sidelines?

Bonus points if you can explain to me why our secondary sucks and is reverting to a Rivera soft zone.

I think the OL is gelling and will continue--remember, the left side is younsters who are starting for the first time.

Secondary sucks because our pass rush sucks.

Not sure about Baker.  he sure is looking spastic.  Remember, at Cleveland he had a strong OL, good Wrs, and good running game.

It will turn around once Sam is put in week 5 or week 6.

Baker is so fundamentally bad, I question what the coaches were looking at during training camp. He has the absolute worst footwork in the pocket of any starting QB in the league. The problems he displays in games actually showed up in training camp i.e cant see over linemen, having to move out of pocket to see throwing lanes, terrible feet in the pocket. Just the absolute worst

Baker is officially the worst rated starting QB in the league now. Just terrible

How funny would it be if Sam starts and leads us to the playoffs and Rhule gets the last laugh since Rhule always liked Sam better anyway.

It would be a great redemption story and a lot of huddlers' heads would explode. Not going to bet my next paycheck on it though.

Definitely. Someone needs to yell at Baker to step up in the pocket and quit getting happy feet like Darnold does. The interior OL is the strong spot, use it. Design a few more plays for CMC and add in some motions once the QB gets more comfortable. Stick with Baker and it'll get easier with time I think. But man they're really being held back by Baker and McAdoo right now. They need to grow with each other, I'm sure Baker was not McAdoo's choice but friggin deal with it.

Sure, anything can happen.  Expecting everything to magically fix itself this season? Don't hold your breath.

There's just too much FUBAR with this team to turn it around.  If they somehow get more than 5 wins this season count it as a miracle.

Nfl offenses can not fundamentally change who they are 4 weeks into the season.  This "offense" is what was worked on in the preseason.  This is what it is.  Couple that with a shitty qb, young oline and an OC that is legendary for being unimaginative and predictable and wala you have the 2022 Carolina panthers offense.

If someone has an example in recent memory I would love to review that and see what their process was but I think all things considered what you have in week 4 is it.  And not to depress you any further, the more tape that gets out there on us the harder its going to be because I sure as hell dont see this staff out coaching and out preparing for some of the teams we have coming up.

Thats not who he fundamentally is.  Historically he has been a qb that likes to roll out.  I only saw it once yesterday but 2x last week where he scrambles and rolls out then tries to do a stutterstep where he completely stops and then tries to fake the defender.  He is not athletic enough to do this and he is going to get decapitated if it continues.  Once a defender realizes what happens he is just going to missile into him when he tries it

Exactly.  But you can't bring that up right now because they finally won a home game in over a year.

We played 3 bad teams with 3 bad QBs and only scored 5 offensive touchdowns in said games.  Mayfield barely completed 50% of his passes against bad defenses.  Mayfield has 42 completions to 9 sacks and 5 fumbles/botched snaps.  McCaffrey has 10 receptions for 57 yards through 3 games against said defenses.  Moore doesn't even have 100 yards on the season and has caught 7 passes at a dismal 38.9 target %, largely because Mayfield blows.

Think about that for a second.  Mayfield has a combined 14 sacks/fumbles.  Moore/McCaffrey have a combined 17 receptions.  Through 3 games, we have just as much of a chance as seeing a sack or a fumble as we do Moore and McCaffrey getting the ball in the pass game.

There is no hope.

    • I have more faith in XL improving than I do in Tmac being a true number 1 recuever
    • Round 1. TMac arguably the best WR in the draft Round 2. Scour ton mentioned as a possible 1st round edge.     Texas A&M did not use him the same way Purdue did. After the 2023 season he was listed as a first round grade. I believe had Texas A&M used him like they did at Purdue he never makes it out of round 1. Round 3 Princely Umanmielen, we'll go by Princely.  Another highly graded player we got in a lower round. As the video suggests, even if he plays only on passing down it's a positive. Give him a couple of years to develop a he could be a three down player.  Round 4a Etienne IMO a huge upgrade over Blackshear. I can see him in a similar role as CMC without the heavy workload. He can run in between the tackles and has some shifty moves. Give Canales some flexibility. A fellow huddler pointed out UGA running backs don't see the field if they cannot pick up the blitz. Really good pick. Round 4b Ransom a hard hitting safety that has played three different positions on defense. Great pick Round 5a Cam Jackson a massive NT in round 5. I believe a solid rotational pick in a lower round. We added a beast that could make offenses quiver when he's lined up with Brown. Great Value  Round 5b Evans This is another player that can block and has good hands. He also had better seasons before 2024. As a rookie he's probably leaps and bounds better than Ian Thomas. I think he gives us a three headed monster at TE.  Round 6 Horn Jr. Many believe he's just going to be a KR/PR player. I believe there are going to be packages for him to get on the field as a WR. His speed with TMac and Thielen in the slot could be special. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in training camp. I've watched some film and he is very explosive.  Overall I love our picks. I honestly believe all of them will contribute this season. I don't believe we reached on one player in this draft.  This weekend we get a small look at these rookies
    • You joke, but hasn't basically the whole team been in Charlotte this past week together? I'm not one to see the random dumb stuff players put out on social media in the offseason and think it means that's ALL they've been doing and not working on their game.  But it's a little strange that all this is coming out at the same time we're seeing tons of stuff with the team in Charlotte together, even if it's just working out and not even official team OTA's or anything. So he gets a pass from me saying anything now, but if he doesn't show clear improvement this season, it then opens him up to some retroactive criticism for some things.
