A college team basically paying Tepper to fire Rhule a bit earlier? What college program with the resources to both pay off Tepper and pay Rhule is going to want Matt Rhule THAT bad? I just can't see that at all.

Oh it’s a stretch no doubt, I’m just thinking that would be one of a limited number if scenarios that Tepper would be all over.

please do it and give us a little hope

Still would be no hope but would be cathartic

Other people can lie all they want but I GD sure would be happy to see someone fired. No reason in the slightest to be upset someone justifiably lost their job

More likely Tepper's choice.

If memory serves me correctly, the fact that the Giants were bidding for his services as well,  likely pushed the negotiation and his price and longevity higher. Tepper out bided Gettleman, and looks like we were both losers.

From the blurb...

ESPN's Dan Graziano reports "there's a lot of buzz" the Panthers will fire head coach Matt Rhule "if things don't pick up soon."

The Panthers have a 1-3 start under Rhule, who is facing three straight losing seasons, and are 11-26 since hiring Rhule in 2020. Another loss to the 49ers in Week 5 could add fuel to Rhule's already hot seat. Firing Rhule in-season would give Carolina an early start at finding his replacement amid rumors the team is planing a run at Sean Payton in 2023. Ex-Cardinals coach Steve Wilks would likely serve as the interim coach if Rhule is fired. The Panthers have been the league's worst offense through the first four weeks, ranking last in the NFL in third-down percentage (26%) and total yards per game (263).

They would not have to pay Tepper.  If Tepper gives them permission to talk to Rhule and they come to an agreement, whatever salary they give Rhule offsets part (or even all) of the money the Panthers pay him.  In essence, they would be paying Tepper by paying Rhule.

It becomes a PR win for everybody.  Tepper or Fitts get to say something like "Arizona State has offered Matt an incredible opportunity, and while we hate to lose him (cough, cough, cough, choke, sip of water), we do not want to stand in his way.  We wish him the best in the future."

Translated: We found a college willing to take this BS artist off our hands and pay most of his outrageous salary.  He may even work out for them, since you can BS 18-year-old kids a lot easier than 25-year-old men.  For us, we not only unload part of his salary, but we don't have to listen to his BS press conferences, endless buzzwords, and useless spin on statistics after every friggin loss....which is pretty much every week during the season.  We wish him the best, but mostly we are glad he is gone.

Maybe you had reservations, but most people saying they “knew Rhule would fail” are revising history.

He was one of the hottest HC names that year, and many were excited to have an owner who “was aggressive to get the guy he wanted.”

People were by and large even more excited when Brady was hired too.

It appears ‘by and large  people’  were wrong doesnt it.

the list of failed college coaches is lengthy

This game will be closer than that. Our defense is legit and SF's offense is not high octane. We will lose after keeping it close for 3 quarters, like we do every week.

It's gonna be a close game Panthers will come out playing inspired football once again (similar to NO game) and will eventually win out 17-13
