It works for the Bears. Montgomery doesn’t look the same and Herbert looks like a stud. Monty will walk at the end of the year and his replacement is there. Bears will keep drafting RBs in round 5 and rotating them.

Posted this the other day, seems fitting to do it again because not trading CMC should be the most obvious thing ever, and this post I didn't even bring up the massive Cap hit we'd take next year for trading him away, yet another reason that trading him would make us less attractive to any new potential HC.........

 

I swear, I really don't understand why people can't seem to figure out how to properly evaluate CMC's future.

Short of Buffalo giving us Cook and 2 Firsts, I'm not even talking to them, dead serious, and here's why.........

With any competent coaching staff, CMC's days as an every down RUNNING BACK are already over, he should and will be relegated to around 10-15 carries a game, max.  He should and will be used in more of a Deebo type of player, he will line up at least 50% of the snaps in a game as a Slot WR, running routes on most plays, taking handoffs on jet sweeps sometimes, and running that as a decoy at other times.

It will keep the wear and tear off his body to allow him to play full seasons while still allowing him a lot of touches each game, and he is already a Pro Bowl caliber Slot WR.  Yes, he is very effective getting 20-25 carries in a game and just wearing down a defense, but it's also what is causing his injury problems, a competent staff will understand this and change how he's used.

When he becomes that role, his contract will look perfectly fine as essentially he's then a top paid WR and we fill in the other 50% of the snaps at RB with players on cheap and/or rookie deals for that team.

There is no good reason that team shouldn't be the Panthers, period.

To a competent HC candidate, who understands how CMC should properly be utilized to maximize his output and decrease injury risk, he is a FAR more attractive piece to recruit a good HC than any fair trade a team is going to offer us.  Even one first by a team in contention, which would fall in the late 20's if not 30's, would be a far less useful piece in said coaching search than the idea of having one of the game's most talented players.

If we trade him, we'll get to see that team get to use CMC for the next 10 years and be possibly the most dangerous weapon in the game during that time.  RB's wash up by 30 because of what it does to their bodies and they don't have CMC's receiving abilities, there is no reason he can't play well into his 30's as he transitions into a full time WR later in his career.

      Where would the Panthers be if they sat Bryce Young last season?

      Hypothetical offseason question. If the Panthers sat Bryce in 2023 and played Dalton instead, where would the Panthers be going into 2024? One thing is certain, things would be VERY different.  1) Frank Reich doesn’t get fired. Dalton is a veteran and operated Frank’s offense far more effectively in the one game he started than Bryce did. The Panthers likely look a lot more competent early on and Frank doesn’t get fired mid-season. Caveat - It’s also been quietly mentioned in some media outlets that Frank and the staff preferred to draft CJ Stroud and might have tanked the season intentionally to get fired, all speculation. But the vanilla offensive scheme might have been a coincidence due to lack of talent and competence, or perhaps malicious compliance.  2) The Panthers wouldn’t have been the worst team in the NFL. The defense was fairly good in 2023 despite the fact the offense was the worst in the NFL with Young under center. With a veteran starting at QB, the offense would possess the ball for longer periods of time and could have lead to even better performances from the defense.  3) Scott Fitterer doesn’t get fired. A move I think was needed either way, but if the Panthers resembled anything in the way of competency in 2023, Fitterer doesn’t get the axe especially because they hadn’t seen what Bryce can do on the field yet.  4) David Tepper doesn’t throw a drink at a fan. I think we’re all tired of the owner of this franchise embarrassing the fans with his immature behavior but hey, I have to imagine that his rage wouldn’t have been at level 10 if they hadn’t had the disaster of a season they did in 2023. 5) Bryce has a good 2024? Biggest leap I can make in this speculation but I think if Bryce sat in 2024, and the team makes similar moves to build the offense around him, he would come into a much better situation after having a chance to learn on the bench behind a veteran instead of the situation he was thrust into.    We will never know how this would have played out but it is fun to speculate!

      This^ My receivers coming out lack the coaching needed to play in the nfl. Very few schools run an nfl style offense. Most rookies will need a lot of coaching even more than before to learn a nfl system. It's the nature of the game in the last half decade or more. I've heard that mentioned by coaches on more than one occasion in past several years. That's why receivers coaches are more important than ever before.
