When the team was being created, the league tried to influence Jerry Richardson to adopt a purple color scheme.

Richardson stuck with the blue due to it's association with the region.

I always heard it had something to do with UNC and Duke, and it’s supposed to be a hybrid between the two colors.

White and silver should be abolished and the only colors we use are black and blue in any combination. Just my opinion, I dislike the white jerseys for pretty much any team and white pants are only ok sometimes.
