Quick trivia:

The last UNC or Mac Brown QB that did poo in the pros?

Oh wait.

What LSU QB before Burrow did anything?

what Oregon QB before Herbert?

what Auburn QB before Cam?

what Texas Tech QB before Mahomes?

every USC QB in the last 20 years besides Carson Palmer has been a bust, should teams shy away from Caleb Williams?

dumb take lmao

I don't dislike the kid.  I just think it's way too premature to anoint him.  The ACC is flat out awful, and that team has struggled to beat good teams.  You are right, my argument in and of itself is no basis to write the kid off, but I don't think it's entirely impertinent.  There are certain teams that have a knack of developing good pros, and some that don't.  UNC is a school that used to pump out great NFL prospects.  In the past ten years we haven't seen much.  Great college qbs really elevate their squad and in the very least can grind out a signature win or two.  UNC looks great against Duke, Syracuse, Va Tech, and Wake Forest (not a real top 25) team.  But Notre Dame, and Clemson?  Outclassed.  He pressed so hard on that pick 6 and couldn't bounce back.  Not sure how you can have this kid over a guy like Rattler who at best is what maybe a 2nd or 3rd round pick right now.

I mean....he is obviously better than Rattler.

If everyone bails ship then Maye should leave.  UNC had one of their better seasons and will probably still finish unranked.  Also, Mack Brown needs to retire

The football program is historically (other than Mack’s two stints) a 6-6 with a Dukes Mayo Bowl program that will always be in the shadow of the basketball team

after inheriting a dumpster fire, in the 4 years hes been back hes had them in the orange bowl, in the acc championship, made them a legit destination for elite recruits, made them nationally relevant, and has actually made chapel hill care about football again. He should have the stadium named after him not retire. The only fans upset or other fanbases hating on him are the delusional ones that think UNC should be the level of program Clemson is. What gets forgotten is he probably would have had them there his first stint if it wasnt happening at the same time Florida State was in their golden age

After reading this, I had to go look at the performance because this post makes it seem like they have been a perennial top 15 program. The actual reality is that despite the unreal wealth of talent Mack Brown is 30-21 in his recent stint. Including only being ranked in the postseason top 25 once in his tenure and currently 1-3 record in bowl games and championship games.

Also, these results are strikingly familiar, as they should be. Because they are slightly worse through 4 years than what Larry Fedora did, including an ACC Championship appearance.

Since people are taking a bow on being right about players months before they were drafted.  I was right about Drake Maye over 3 years ago!

Even I didn't imagine he would be a couple of votes away from winning the NFL MVP award his second year in the NFL.

really unfortunate the timing didn't work out for us to draft him would have been a special story.

I said it when I watched him in college. This is the best player I've ever watched live as a college player. UNC had some sorry teams and he carried them.

The defenses the Heels put on the field opposite those Howell and Maye offenses was just absolutely negligent. If we'd had just run of the mill average defenses we could've made real noise. We could move the ball and score at will, but so could our opponents only easier.

It was like watching the Rams/Seahawks game. One team is competing by their QB making insane plays and the other team was getting big chunk plays with ease.

You called it. All we had to do was roll with Darnold 1 more year and Maye was ours. Now both are in he SB.

Darnold was 8-9 as a starter in Carolina. I don't think rolling with him would've gotten us the 3rd pick in the draft.

    • We weren't picking top 5 when we drafted Bryce.  We gave up the haul because we had to trade up from 9 to 1.    No reason to think we couldn't have done the same the year after.  We would have either gotten Drake or Caleb.
    • Not to mention, we have so much draft capital over the next several seasons
    • For us to win 9-10 games a lot of poo has to break in our favor.  A lot more than last season.  That stuff just doesnt happen two years in a row.   I really think the icky injury is really going to mess things up for a prolonged period.  We have all seen what happens when we dont have a competent LT.  Things get dicey in hurry.   Couple that with Tampa getting healthy, Atlanta getting some grown ups in the room and New Orleans on the up and up then our div seemingly is slowly rising from the ashes.  Oh yeah that goes along with our first place schedule   As we sit here today I would say our O/U is probably 6.5-7.   Maybe.   But if this offense doesnt get figured out stat then we are in a world of hurt.  We cannot be relying on going for it on 4rth so much and we cannot think the breaks are going to go our way in one score games.  For us to win 10 games we probably need close to a top 10 offense.  As of 2/2/26 I just dont see it
