What would you consider a good record for a coach that had 3 different starting QBs in the same season and had to overcome the hand he was dealt? IF we make the playoffs and win the South, he deserves STRONG consideration.

Consideration but not the job. There are better coaches out their.

Random drunk thought here but how would you feel if the following scenario played out…..

***We win the next two games and win the NFC South. Home playoff game***

What direction would you take if you were make believe Gm this upcoming offseason??

Here is mine:

-Steve Wilks is signed as our next head coach

-We sign an exciting name as OC and have Macadoo back in another role with the team (our offense has been much improved lately)

-We re sign Darnold to a one year deal (he has has a 104.3 rating currently) and give him an opportunity to COMPETE for a starting role or be our top tier backup QB. We go into the season with Darnold, Corrall, AND rookie QB as our depth chart.

-We re sign Bozeman to a 4 year deal, Foreman to a 1 year deal

-Extend Burns (which will also help cap next season)

-We sign a top tier TE (such as Schultz, Ertz,  Gesicki)

-We use our draft picks in round one, two, two, three, four, four, five on BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE that could be any position of need

Off-season decisions/needs

-Add one year to Shaq Thompsons contract to decrease his cap hit or cut him? If you keep him you are set at LB, if you cut him you have to sign a FA or draft LB high

-DE to start opposite Burns must be a draft pick. If we re sign Burns we will have good money tied up in the position. We have good depth with gross Matos and Haynes but both are depth only. We don’t have the money to sign a good player in FA so you need to draft one using a 1st or 2nd round pick depending on how the draft falls.

-Is Marshall our WR 2 for next season?

-QB? Do you draft one in round one? If not do you take another shot with one of our two second round picks.

People are really hanging onto that 2014 season for some reason. The 2014 team would eat this team for lunch and we ain’t gonna get lucky and play a team without their starting QB.

Huge difference with Luke and Cam vs now. Meh, Rivera has shown everyone where this ends. Feel good about not winning enough. I'm not celebrating that anymore and this year hasn't been fun or magical, it's pedestrian proceeded by complete incompetency.

Last year. Also you keep mentioning 1-5 record and yes it does matter. An interim HC having success when he is made interim is not abnormal. Most interims have success because they are injecting some newness into the team.
Wilks success isn’t surprising.
But, as I said before, stats don’t lie. Unless he has become some savant HC after he flamed out in Arizona.
He will either make the playoffs but never make the Super Bowl.
Fail once he has control because he isn’t a good HC.

What?? In recent NFL history, that is absolutely false. The 3 interim coaches in 2020 went a combined 9-19.  Since 2013, including Wilks' 5-5 (and keep in mind I don't think he should just get the job if he losses out or something), interim coaches are 44-80. Definitely not resounding success - but is this being brought down by a few very bad interim coaches? The answer is no.

The only two interim coaches with winning records beyond one game were Bisaccia last year and Greg Williams in 2018.

The only interim head coach to take over a team with a winning record in the last 10 years was Bisaccia.  Most interim coaches take over trash teams, and perform like trash. A few take over for a one or two games - those guys are sometimes at .500.  Excluding Wilks and Bisaccia, and the coaches that coached fewer than 4 games, the average interim coach wins 2.7 games and coaches for 8.4 games.

We have to at least be competitive in the wildcard round for Wilks to stick IMO. Go out there and get beat by three TDs at home and that's a wrap.

Damn, the goalposts keep shifting.

If the dude wins the division from 1-5 he'll be retained. We embarrassed the Seahawks on the road and the Lions at home in a manner we've not done to anyone since 2015.

I'm not even a fan of Wilks, but he'll get the job if the next 2 weeks go to plan.

I'm not opposed to retaining Wilks. I'm just saying he's not gonna be retained even if we do win the division but we get waxed by the Cowboys at home in the wildcard round. Tepper isn't gonna sit there watching the Cowboys enjoy a home playoff game at BOA and us getting our asses kicked and then say, "Yeah, that's my guy."
