Well put yourself in some of these guys shoes and look at the situation they are walking into.  I can't say as I can fault them for waiting another season to see how things shake out elsewhere.  There's more to consider than just the players they inherit.

This 💯as fans it’s easy to forget the human element in all of this.

I bet ownership got in BJs ear and let him know if Campbel gets fired next year he’s in as HC

When is the last time you heard a coach come right out say he didn't get the job and that's why he's coming back?  It's always a prepared "I have unfinished business"  or " I want to finish what I started" answer.

Dan Campbell probably talks with Payton and passed the news along…

If this were true I understand it’s a big waste of time but personally I’d still interview. Always good to sharpen your interview skills if you’re looking to climb the ladder.

Dan told Ben it’s not worth it because Payton has the gig.

I’m not buying this is the case but if it were true we could have another situation like the one that unfolded with Daboll/Flores last year when the Rooney rule hadn’t been met. Would not be a good look.

That Payton told Dan Campbell he's getting the Panthers job.

Not buying it

It was always Payton, the Panthers already agreed to the baseline trade package to get the interview to begin with. As soon as NO said yes to whatever the Panthers called back with (yea they had called earlier and was told no according to some NO beat reporters) he became the front runner.

It's why he is meeting with David Tepper and not Nicole which is who the other coaches have met with according to rumors.

Lots of smoke here. And I wanted Wilks. 😂

    • To me, this seems like they feel they aren't going to be competitive. I can't help but go back to Bryce. Good guy, but he doesn't inspire people to give it their all. He isn't a "leader" that people look to. There is no Smith, Delhomme, Kuechly, Cam, etc. coming in that door.  It has to be Bryce, but biologically speaking, how often is the shortest man in the room going to command the kind of respect that will drive people? It just isn't. That isn't how we are wired. That isn't how any living animal on Earth today is wired.  I just follow the science guys.
    • Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.  Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.  I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.
