And Carolina wanted two first rounders for McCaffrey. Just cause they want doesn't mean they will get it. Their options are Carolina and Denver right now, and Denver certainly doesn't have that to give.

I think Denver recouped a late first round pick after trading Bradley Chubb to Miami, so they have that at least. Denver's job seems to be more attractive compared to Carolina if I was a head coach, unless you just hate Russell Wilson.

This is my question too--Denver is not in the position to give up two #1s on top of what is still owed to Seattle.

Unless Loomis is agreeing to less for Denver, why would Payton go there with fewer picks, a worse cast, and a tougher division and conference than Carolina? Ok, he'd have Russ but that may just be a halo effect. He'd pick his QBs in Carolina and take a team that Wilks had go 6-6 (could have been 8-4) in a putrid--I repeat--putrid division. He'd have to be high or highly unfortunate to not be in the playoffs every year here.

If I was Payton I would play Tepper and then sign in Denver. I don’t think Denver’s new owner will be as meddlesome as Tepper.

He'd get a way longer in Carolina than Denver, where the fan base expects Lombardis. Longer time to get paid in Charlotte than in Denver.

Our very on Verge has "sources". But it's not like she has the phone number of somebody working for the NFL who is giving her, and her alone, inside info. Twitter is an abomination ... but we like it because it's 24/7.

Technically we use facebook messenger

Saints do have a lot to lose if they are asking too much, Payton would just sit out next season and then be free of his contract and NO wouldn't get any compensation.

What I haven't seen anyone talking about is another option. Payton goes back to New Orleans and says he's ready to resume his contractual duties as head football coach. I don't think Loomis wants that.

I'm guessing he can't do that, he didn't take a leave, he retired, it's not like they have to keep paying his contract.

They just retain his coaching rights until the contract would have been over, if not, coaches could "retire" any time they wanted just to switch teams, it would be wild.

Also pretty sure they have his rights through the 2024 season, so they do have a lot of power in this as they could force him to sit out 2 more years if they wanted, think that eliminates a lot of leverage Payton could have in it all because at his age, 2 years might be around 20% of the rest of his career.

Knowing how Tepper is, I see either the deal with Payton getting done Friday; or a deal with Dorsey getting done Saturday.

Tepper doesn't strike me as someone who wants a long coaching search, so if he can't get Payton to agree to a deal Friday, I could easily see him being enamored with Dorsey and hiring him on the spot.

Deal with Payton can’t be done Friday. They have to talk to the saints first.

    • I can say that I have defended Canales because I get that they are doing all they can to keep from looking like idiots for drafting Bryce, from the trade up to signing $150m guards to drafting XL and Brooks etc---nothing seems to work.  And Hiring Canales was part of the Bryce Young rehab program, so so he can't really decide to "move on."  That has to come from Morgan and Tepper. Personally, I think Bryce is due for an injury.  He is small, he is not thick, and he has been a LOT more healthy than most any other QB has who has endured so much pressure.  The thing that bothers me is this---Bryce really does not go through his progressions quickly.  He locks on to his presnap read and stays locked onto him for too long--he seems to fail to anticipate the WR/TE's positioning on the play before the cut--for example, if the WR is running a dig and the CB has his back to the inside of the field, he should be open for a second or less just after the cut.  He seems to wait until the cut has been made before deciding, then checking down quickly while moving in the pocket. OL:  There seems to be a lack of communication--is that on Mays?  Watch this team presnap--they seem a bit confused at times.   I can almost predict the success rate of the play by watching the center and QB before the snap.
    • Anyone else remember back in 2010 when Fox piloted having music under the in-game replays during one of Carolina's games? Not the commercial bumpers but the actual replay clips that the announcers would talk over. Pretty sure it was vs the 49ers. And it was terrible. Point being, Carolina continues being so bad that we get the networks trying things out during their games.
    • Is it bad I found this video more hilarious than pathetic? I am still laughing at that one play where half the people on the field ran into each other and Bryce still couldn't see Chuba wide open... Also laughing at Cade blocking nobody and somehow losing his cleat Man this offense is a poo show
