I personally want someone other than Sean Payton as the Panthers new head coach.

There is no way I want to see them give up a true 1st rd pick for him.

However, if the Panthers did decide to go after Payton, I think the 49ers' 2nd and 3rd you suggested would be a fair value.

Good take. In the past I’d have felt the same way. Now I’m just so sick of our seasons essentially being over by November with so little hope each year that I’d be excited about a proven guy like Payton or Harbaugh, both guys I have hated with a passion before. We need to get back to winning

Trading high draft capital for a 60 year old coach who made his bones with a top 10 QB ever and really not anything else after that would be an emblematic error for a star f***er of an owner like Tepper.  Jon Gruden had a better case to make as a big splash retread than Payton does and we all know how that turned out

So if Payton was only successful because of Brees ... and Belichick was only successful because of Brady ... what does that say about Ron Rivera? If you believe Cam was just as elite as the other two, then coach shouldn't barely even matter since most everyone says Rivera sucks. But if you believe Cam was a tier below the other two, that means Riverboat is a better coach than Bill and Sean lol.

So, which is it?

No one says Cam was as great as Brees and Brady.  He was certainly elite, and did more with less than almost anyone (especially with the trash coaching), but he wasn’t a sure fire first round lock HoF and top 10 all time QB like those two were.

I dunno why you say Cam being less than the other two means Rivera is better than the other two. That logic doesn’t add up.  Rivera: 0 rings, Payton: 1 ring with far less talent on the defense than Rivera had and not a ton on offense, Belichick: many rings with less talent than Rivera had on defense and not a ton on offense.

I wasn't trying to belittle Cam, which is your and my usual debate lol. I was trying to point out to a handful of people that coaching with an elite QB still requires a good coach. By their logic, Payton only won it all due to having Brees. But if they don't think Cam is top tier, that means Ron did it without any "Brees magic" so to speak. I was just pushing their buttons. Of course Ron isn't better than they are.

Never trade picks for a SB winning coach. It's still a risky coach that I don't want, but you are better off going with a defensive minded college coach (at least a couple of them have won multiple SBs) with little to no NFL experience and using the picks on players. SB winning coaches will get you close but they don't win SBs. 5 SB winning coaches have gone to the SB with 2 teams. Only 2 have gone back to the SB with a new team and lost.

Don't do it.

I'm good with getting Payton and giving him 2 seasons to post a winning record and 4 seasons to win a SB when he isn't under contract.

    • take a  look around the league at other young Qb's around Bryce Young's age group  such as Drake Maye , Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix , CJ Stroud  & Caleb Williams who at the time like Bryce Young they also were drafted also joined teams with a losing record .the only difference with these Qb's is after joining their teams with a losing record they led those same teams to a winning record in a very short period of time .it's simply what you call a game changer & or elite Qb's & then take a  look at  the other side of the coin you have Qb's such as Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, Justin Fields  & Anthony Richardson also like Bryce Young all first round picks who instead of winning either did not play or led their teams to a losing record while playing  just because Bryce Young was a #1 overall pick does not necessarily mean that he will become improve with time if history tells you anything it's matter of fact just the opposite . lBryce Young who has an overall record of 14-30 & wildly inconsistent & never in the history pf the NFL has a Qb 5'10" or shorter had a successful carrer as Qb in the NFL  you have to ignore alot of FACTS & be really ignorant to the FACT to think Bryce Young is the future at Qb if anything history is telling you exactly what ?..just saying

    • to me these two signings were so bad for the Panthers at the time of our young team. "Sean Gilbert was signed by the Carolina Panthers on April 21, 1998, after being traded from the Washington Redskins in a deal that sent the Panthers two first-round picks (Nos. 5 and 12) to Washington. The Panthers then re-signed Gilbert to a 7-year, $46.5 million contract extension on the same date"  The other was Jason Peters being picked in the First round of the 1998 draft. "Peter played for the Panthers from 1998 to 2001, appearing in 38 games (starting 20) and recording 88 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery His NFL career was cut short by a chronic neck stinger, forcing him to retire after the 2001 season
