Natalie Miller's mock draft 1.0

I think KJ is going to be rotational depth in the NFL.   He wasn't really dominant at Clemson and that was being in a great position to be.  Good DT play and a better DE across from him.

Think this current crop coming out at Clemson is a step back from what they have been putting out into the NFL on the DL.

Same re: rotational guy + Clemson's DL. In Henry I see YGM with a higher ceiling and better get off that doesn't cost a 2nd round selection. One thing though is that KJ made splash plays when they mattered, and I'd rather see if he can develop should YGM continue his current progress.

@Verge…it’s almost draft time and I don’t follow social media much.  I really value your QB evaluations each draft season.  Please post us links to your efforts here.  There are some really polarizing opinions on these QBs so would be interested in your rankings and analysis.

Yeah of course! I start all the draft wire stuff next month so I will be sure to also send it your way.

Every year it's the same thing here: people go back and forth about drafting a QB, even the obvious projects, in the first round, and then we go on to draft the BPA in fitting with our board. I doubt that it will be any different this year.

We had our pick of tackles last year. I could easily see us taking the best of the CBs or WRs this year, if the draft falls that way. But in the end, who knows? Especially right now.

Verge-

When I first saw Porter at 9 I sort of raged.  But picking up Henderson's option in 2024 will cost 11m.  And if Jackson is slowed by the achilles, we could save 10m by cutting him in 2024.  Porter could be really important if those guys are no longer with us after 2023 year.

Does a combo of Porter/Horn make sense in a 3-4?

My personal humble opinion is the Panthers really have to go offensive with our picks.  CB is a need.  We have a lot of needs including Edge,  but this team has to go offense at the skill positions in this draft,  we have waited too long to do it

Even if that pick is Mayer at 9 the offense is much better.  This draft lacks star talent and Mayer is a difference maker.

QB is obviously the target but offensively we need more talent

That pick makes no sense.

1.) We already spent a 3rd round pick on CJ Henderson.

2.) Deonte Jackson will count $13,589,167 against our cap in 2023. Are we going to sit a 13 million dollar CB? No.

This draft pick is no happening and that's easy to predict. We will either select a QB, or maybe get a vet like Carr. Even with a vet QB we don't go CB imo.

I think Gonzales would be a better fit for our likely scheme, and would be super excited if we got he or Porter at 9. Cheap pro bowl corner talent in this league is such an advantage. Having said that, it would be real hard for me not to trade down with Detroit to snag Jalen Carter. If we’re going to run light (in numbers) fronts then it’s imperative that we have Brown and another DT who can absolutely wreck a blocking scheme. Get the generational talent if it’s that close within your reach. Detroit needs another DB too, feed them 1 second and 1 third rounder this year plus next year’s second.

Doesn’t matter. We have a problem at no. 2 corner and it needs to be fixed now. We can’t assume Donte will be fully healed, and while I like Henderson and think he’s improving, with a frequently injured Jayce Horn, Henderson at CB 1 and our current back ups won’t cut it in the playoffs. We can’t John Fox scheme our way out with mediocre CB talent in this day and age. Team with the best CBs are going to be in it at the end. Most sacks are now coverage sacks. Go get the coverage.

    • I'm not sure that in a fair QB competition that Young would beat out Jones.
    • That's why I said stats aside. I lived in CO during Allen's college career and didn't have kids at the time so I watched most of his games. Bruh, I'm telling you. Balls just spraying all over the place. The type of throws where you're honestly trying to figure out who he was even trying to throw that one too. It was crazy. Richardson was inaccurate in college but at least you could tell who he was trying to throw it too. He threw a lot of early in the game Cam Newton type balls where it seemed like he was just a little too amped up and everything was a few feet high. Richardson's misses looked like they were maybe fixable with working on his footwork, release, etc. Josh Allen's misses looked like "ain't no way you're fixin' that poo, dude has a cannon equipped with no sights". LOL Huge props to the Bills for evaluating him as fixable and indeed fixing him.
    • A lot can change over the next week, but here is my best 53-man roster (note: I'm just basing this on guys on the 90 man roster currently). Obviously there could be trades/ waiver claims/ FA signings.   Offense (25) QB (2): Bryce Young, Andy Dalton RB (3): Chuba Hubbard, Rico Dowdle, Trevor Etienne TE (4): Tommy Tremble, JT Sanders, Mitchell Evans, James Mitchell WR (7): Tetoria McMillan, Xavier Legette, Adam Theilen, Jalen Coker, Hunter Renfrow, Jimmy Horn, Brycen Tremayne  OL (9): Ikem Ekwonu, Damien Lewis, Austin Corbett, Robert Hunt, Taylor Moton, Cade Mays, Chandler Zavala, Brady Christensen, Yosh Nijman    Defense (25) DL (6): Derrick Brown, Bobby Brown, Ashawn Robinson, Tershawn Wharton, Sam Roberts, Cam Jackson OLB (5): DJ Wonnum, Pat Jones, Nic Scourton, Princely Umanmielen, Thomas Incoom  ILB (5): Trevin Wallace, Christian Rozeboom, Krys Barnes, Jon Rattigen, Claudin Cherelus S (4): Trevon Moehrig, Demani Richardson, Lathan Ransom, Nick Scott  CB (5): Jaycee Horn, Mike Jackson, Chau Smith-Wade, Corey Thornton, Shemar Bartholomew    ST (3): LS: JJ Jansen  P: Sam Martin  K: Matthew Wright    Would like to hear everyone's thoughts
