Why is mediocrity so attractive?

What makes Steichan the guy?

Did you ever look at the situation Steichan is in?

Do we have a Jalen Hurts at QB?

Do we have 2 #1 WR's?

Do we have a top 10 rb?

Do we have the best Oline in football?

These are the resources Steichan will not have if he takes this job in Carolina.

Sell me on Steichan please!

Good thing we have a GM that was hand picked by Rhule! lol

"The Carolina Panthers are a bottom feeder NFL franchise. We're barely even "mediocre".

I agreed until there and I fell off the track. One of the best coaches anywhere in football Mr. Jim Harbaugh had the Panthers as 1a,b if he was to leave Michigan. Like Harbaugh or not the fact that he WANTED this job above many others proves that this is a great job and a great location and until Tepper mismanagement a proud middle of the pack, sometimes good/great team.

The Tepper years make us look like bottom feeders. His ineptitude is being projected onto a once proud franchise. He shouldn't be searching when the right guy basically walked up to the door, but you're looking over his shoulder at Sean. Smh.

The Harbaugh situation isnt really evidence of anything.

I think it's funny people act like we can't do worse then Wilks, we can and already did with Rhule. People say try something different like we didn't just get out of a 2 1/2yr hell with Mr "the way of the Panther"guy. Dude came in and tried to remove all history this team had.

I'm a Wilks guy, all I'm saying is why not give him a shot? Look no farther then LV they got the new toy after there temp guy got them to play better and he was the hot OC but forgot that just because you can call plays don't mean you can run a whole team.

Oh no not a RR 2.0 the winningest coach in Panther history, I would take 4 NFCS titles and a SB run over always chasing the new shiny new toy. Also RR got to as many SBs as S. Payton. (Sucks the NFL didn't want us to win one) just my two cent

OP smoking crack.

Nothing Wilks did was " amazing"

He is a bottom tier NFL coach. It only appears like he did something great because Rhule was at best an OL assistant coach at the NFL level.

If we dont hire Wilks no one else is either, hes not even getting a interview unless its to satisfy the rooney rule, the dude is not a NFL HC.

I can buy the "we can do worse than Wilks" argument. But if we are keen on going backwards since we can't get Ron since he hasn't been fired just yet let's just bring in some of Rivera's old cronies. If ya'll think this is the move let's go all in and really live in ten years ago. Does Dorsey wanna come back? What about Scott Turner? Let's make it a family reunion.

This whole idea that we will be mediocre under Wilkes was manufactured by the huddle and now accepted as fact. Wilkes was conservative but was that by design or necessity? Did we run because it was our strength or because our qbs sucked throwing it and our line struggled in pass blocking early? What would he do if he had a great OC and a staff he picked. If he could build a team his way what would it be,? If he turned Rhules misfits into a competent team with half a staff, key injuries defensively, and a revolving door of quarterbacks and still go 6-6, I would let you have 2 years to complete the turnaround. Even a new coach would need a year or two to turn things around and would want a 5 year contract. It isn't mediocre it is the best route to a winning season next year.

Don't ignore the roster he has. Those guys are loaded he's just making the right calls. Those calls might not look as great with a lesser roster.

Just sayin...

He looked pretty good without AJB last year when Hurts wasn't thought to be all that special, he looked great with the chargers.  But the most offensive thing stated here is thinking Miles Sanders is a top 10 RB.

I agree but I don't know anyone else other than Wilks or The jerk Payton to go with. Reich proved he is head coach material for awhile as well so I guess him too. I realize Steichen has a great roster but I almost feel like maybe he is worth taking a chance on. Who do you like?

    • I'm OK with picking up the 5th year option (mostly because there aren't any clear long-term better options likely to be available in the offseason) but I need to see a lot more consistency before I'd support a full-on contract extension.
    • Yall are a little unrealistic. This is the first time in his 3 years that this QB has had a roster they could actuallyt win with - and we're in the playoffs. No one to throw to and the worst interior oline this franchise has ever fielded as a rookie. Defense was meh but would get worse. Second season Derrick Brown gets injured for the year in the first game and we march out the worst run defense (and possibly overall defense) in the history of the NFL. So many on here talking about an average QB would have this team with 12+ wins. You're delusional. How many games would we have won last season with just an average defense? KC, Philly and the first TB games off the top of my head. And that's with Thielen as your best receiver, rookie XL and rookie Coker. David Moore was the second best receiver last season. David Moore. This season the defense has improved but we're lining up too many rookies to make it to the playoffs on both sides of the ball, yet here we are. I ain't saying Bryce Young is the answer, but he has been a big part of some big wins this season. I'm hopeful that we'll see improvement when he has more time with this very young receiving corp. Remember, they're learnig how to be pros at the same time as we're going to the playoffs. The only veteran receiving  presence we've had this year is Tommy Tremble. We could actually see big improvement if David Moore comes back healthy. And that is saying alot.
    • Dowdle was fresh and it was early in  the year. It gets more difficult later in the year when teams improve, gel and get in their grooves. Hunt being out also plays into it but then when was the last time the Panthers adjusted well with personnel? Morris did some good but the QB situation was enough to sink both him and the GM. I'm more on the 'if they played Cousins they could have won the division this year' side. It would have been ugly but it was really low hanging fruit. Penix getting g I injured again and losing the division by a game was enough to know he isn't the guy IMO. 2 years is the standard and he still falls on the wrong side. Im surprised Lovie is back. I have zero faith he can build up any team. Did a decent job maintaining someone else's build but how he handled this year vs the last 2 was enough to give him a pink slip IMO.
