Remind me, did Fields only play half the season in 2020 or something? Because what I’m seeing is Stroud throwing for A LOT more yards, TDs, with higher avg, rating, similar completion %, and way less sacks. I must be missing something for somebody to call their passing “pretty close”.

So you would spend a top 10 pick on one of these QBs that you firmly believe aren't franchise QBs?

Yes, mostly to ensure that the server on this forum didn't meltdown if we passed on a QB at #9.

Seriously, I mostly want AR15.  I think with Reich as HC he could do more with this guy than any of the others. Levis would probably be my 2nd choice.

Just so I don't dance around your question.  As a GM and I have a new head coach and he wanted one of these QBs.  I'd go get him.  Terribly against giving too many assets to get him but if Reich was insistent.  I would use a top 10 pick for a QB.

On a side note, I wish I could see into Reich's head.  I wonder what he thinks about Corral.  I know many of you hate him, mostly because he's just a 3rd round pick.  But we're talking about a HC that has done wonders with his QBs in the past.  Could Reich see a lot of potential in Corral?  Corral has some interesting tools and could be a solution that's "Already on the Roster".

Yeah lets just wait next year when we have the #9 pick again because we signed some vet QB like Jimmy G or Carr who takes us nowhere but mediocrity.

What is with this fanbase and waiting for QB's?

At some point you have to trade up to get your franchise QB. Waiting solves nothing.

We were told to wait for this year when we could go grab Young or Stroud. Anyone thinking that if we don't take a QB in the first round this year, that next year is gonna be any different are fooling themselves. We'll pick 8-12 and we will be told that it's too costly to trade up for Williams or Maye, and they're not sure prospects anyway, and that we need to wait 'til next year when the next "sure fire" QBs are in the draft, only to once again be told that actually those guys aren't good enough to warrant the draft capital.

Let's see how it plays out. I'm betting that the experienced QB/HC guy and the GM of the team decide differently than the trade up for a risky college QB method of drafting.

Fields Bigger Arm, a lot more athletic

Stroud’s better between the ears.  Better processor.  Still good enough arm.

Fields is the much better athlete. Stroud is the much more polished passer.

There wouldn't be a comparison between the two if they didn't go to the same school. They're not very similar as players.

pretty much all of this. stats don't tell the whole story. very different stylistically. fields relies more on athleticism and will likely have a ceiling of being a medicore passer. he'll be good at what he does, but what he does uses a narrower skillset than stroud. fields is a naturally gifted runner/athlete who can throw when needed. he's a big play guy, for sure, but i don't see him ever being one of the top most talented passers in the league.

stroud is a good pocket passer, very natural in that role and he's much better at processing the field. he's kind of the opposite of fields, imo. he's a naturally gifted pocket QB who can run when needed. i do think that stroud's game and style will keep him in the game longer than fields will. fields will take a beating and likely miss a good bit of time because of things happening when he runs. you take his run game away or it diminishes, and he's going to be pretty limited.

stroud, being the pocket guy that he is, won't be taking quite the beating that fields will and if you take away his run game, he's still going to be very lethal. i think he's just a much more complete QB.

Not really. It's the most important position on the field. If you're trading up for a guy like that he'd better be a difference maker.

He was up by like 3 scores against Georgia and couldn't seal the deal - that's not a good game to reference.

whose job is it to keep the other team from scoring?

i'm no expert, but i think it's the defense that does that.

you know i'm not even sure that it's the QBs job to kick a clutch game winning field goal.

Even after said GM yesterday said outright that the ideal QB route is draft and develop?

If the Bears think this they'd draft Stroud and trade Fields.

I want to see Fields with some decent talent around him before I put a ceiling on him.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
