1. Chicago Bears: Will Anderson Jr., Edge, Alabama

3. Carolina Panthers(via Arizona): Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida*

With the first quarterback off the board and multiple teams ahead of them desperate to find their franchise guy, the Panthers open the Frank Reich era with a splash, trading up and taking a major swing on the biggest lottery ticket in the draft.

Anthony Richardson’s tape doesn’t make him the cleanest QB prospect to evaluate, but he’s more polished than his reputation lets on. His footwork and feel in the pocket indicate comfort in chaos, which is impressive given how easy it would be for him to tuck and run at the first sign of trouble. He has some off-target throws but not as many awful decisions, and his dynamic ability to create offense would give Carolina the juice to establish a new offensive identity.

 

 

4. Indianapolis Colts: Will Levis, QB, Kentucky

If I had to pick a team most likely to trade up to No. 1, it’d be the Colts. No matter what happens with Indianapolis’ coaching search, this team isn’t leaving the offseason with another veteran retread at quarterback.

Here, they take Will Levis, who — when he has had the right supporting cast around him — has played just as well as any quarterback in this class. The Colts’ running backs and receiving corps are interesting, but for Levis to maximize those pieces and help out his offensive line, the Colts would have to allow him to do something Kentucky wouldn’t: use his legs. If we see more of Levis’ athletic potential, the tools are all there.

 

5. Seattle Seahawks (via Denver): Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia

 

6. New York Jets (via Detroit/L.A. Rams): Bryce Young, QB, Alabama*

Another big trade, with the Jets ensuring that they’re not left out in the cold in the quarterback sweepstakes. After the Zach Wilson saga in 2022, Jets coach Robert Saleh needs an immediate answer to fix an offense that has yet to look promising during his tenure.

Bryce Young is the quarterback the Jets were convinced Wilson was. He escapes pressure, keeps his eyes downfield and makes every throw. In spite of his size — which I expect to be a major talking point when the measurements are official — Young stands tall in the pocket and accepts that he will need to take hits. If the Jets’ offensive line were to stay upright and give Young time to throw, their passing game could take a leap in 2023.

Trading up to 3 in the draft would be a strong indication that Marty Hurney is back in the building. 

It'll be interesting to watch his draft stock. So much is going to depend on his interviews. He's definitely a guy I could see rising or falling.

      If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.

      Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.

      it's not so much this personal vendetta against the Carolina Panthers as it is more about Bryce Young never not once been in the same conversation with the top 15 or even top 20 Qbs in the NFL ..just saying
