...is something that's been in short supply on our coaching staff over the past few seasons. Truth be told, probably also in certain parts of our roster.

What feels abundantly clear now though is that it's going to be a top priority for new head coach Frank Reich and his staff.

Just look at some of their quotes:

When's the last time you remember hearing a Panthers coach talk about players needing to know situational football?

If that's not convincing enough, go back and listen to this week's press conferences. Everybody who's stepped to the podium from the head coach on down came off as not just smart, but also skilled as a communicator.

I'm not gonna sit here and guarantee that we're on a quick path to the Super Bowl or anything like that, but I will say this:

I'm less worried about us getting outcoached than I probably have been in the last ten years or so.

Probably something our resident draftniks will want to take note of too when looking at potential draftees.

If a guy comes off as not necessarily being the sharpest knife in the drawer, that's probably gonna take him down a few spots.

Probably not, but he is OOU. 

I think you could assemble the greatest NFL minds ever, including digging some up out of the grave, task them with using their incredible knowledge to create an organization and environment that would foster frustration and underachievement, and all of them together could not do "better" than we did during that reign of incompetence.

This is why Hooker may be a target. He comes off as a pretty smart level headed guy.

Duggan intrigues me as well.

I really think Hooker is one of the top QB's in the draft.  I have him above Levis and way above Richardson.  Would love to see him here with the teachers we have.  The IQ is there.

Well said good sir. These press conferences have honestly given me chills I can’t remember a time when we’ve had this level of intelligence and articulation displayed by our coaching staff. And I’m so looking forward to seeing how this translates to the field.

It will be a welcome change to spend my Sundays watching a truly professional well-coached football that plays to win.
