You pay your number 1 guy and your number 2 needs to be on a rookie deal. If your drafted 2 balls out he gets the next contract and you trade number 1 before reupping their contract. Cinncy will have issues If they pay Chase and Higgins along with Burrow

You need THREE receivers in the league now, not just two.

Makes drafting skill positions more important than ever. Let someone else sign the huge contracts for so so WRs.

I've been thinking a lot about this. And I agree wholeheartedly.

Too many mid-level guys out there getting big money contracts (or even bottom tier guys like Sideshow Bob) for positions that aren't in on every play. And I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it, if your star player is a WR your team has a whole host of problems.

Draft RBs, Edge and WRs high, use the four low cost years of their contract, and a fifth if they are really good, and then send them out to get the big paychecks somewhere else.

Pay the men on the line to keep them, pay the QB when you have a good one, and keep decent pay to your DBs and LBs. And if you have a hoss at NT, pay the man to keep him happy.

But $18 million for a WR2? We're doing something like that already and it just isn't working out.

WR and RB should really only be addressed through the draft and neither should be given a second contract.

RB because it's just too easy to replace and second contracts aren't really worth it.

WR because they are getting just too pricey.

every once in a while you can find a bargain, but those will be rare and rarely worth the effort regardless of price.

    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
    • I don't really follow the team anymore due to a variety of reasons and consequently have largely stopped posting but I agree that this is a lovely website and community. This forum probably kept me around for years longer than I would've stuck otherwise because of how difficult it was to stop checking multiple times a day. Especially appreciate how lax the moderation tends to be compared to a lot of places, the crew here does a great job. Out of curiousity I decided to try making a new account (solely for testing purposes) to see what exactly is wrong with the sign up process. The issue seems to be that it never sends you an account verification email, thus making it impossible to complete registration. This is likely something to do with the email server upstream, hope it gets fixed. Also, lol
