Per Rich Eisen: “The Bears are long down the road to trading the first overall pick. The teams have been identified, compensation is being hammered out.”

My hope is the Bears trade with the Texans and then trade out of #2 with us.

Not only would the chaos be hilarious, but it would net the Bears 3 first round picks next year for sure, allow them to load the hell up, and would still allow us to take our pick between Stroud, Young, Levis, and Richardson, whoever wasn't chosen at #1.

This would also be slightly cheaper for us.

This is my primary concern as well.

Drafting a good QB is just step 1. Surrounding him with talent is how you develop him and win with him.

We can’t do that if we don’t have a 1st round pick until after his 3rd year. We have too many holes in our roster.

Remember, QB + HC combos win a SB in their first 5 years together or they never do.

To play devil's advocate here, our cap situation gets LOT better after this year. We could be significant FA players. And the 1st round isn't the only place to find talent in the draft. Especially when you have good young talent at the premium positions outside of QB. Icky at LT, Horn at CB, Burns at EDGE, Moore at WR, Brown at DT, etc.

It kindof doesnt once you figure we are resigning burns, chinn, brown on the horizon.  I suspect we pick up the 5th on brown and try to extend him asap but maybe not.  Chinn is going to be due for a nice extension as well.   We will have cap space but its not like we are going to be flush

It’s rare to find high end talent in FA. Guys are let go for a reason.

Its also really expensive.

It’s virtually impossible to collect players like Burns, Moore, Ikey, and Brown in FA. Both for talent and financial reasons.

They are good players to build on and we need more. They need someone to pair with them to become a complete team. They could get a lot better if they manage to hit on 3 or 4 of those picks.

The Bengals spending money in FA contributed heavenly to them making deep playoff runs right after drafting Burrow.

Hopefully we can make the cap as fake as the Saints do lol.

Is this a running joke here or do people actually have alts? Lol what’s the point in that.

Just look like a fool and own it like the rest of us!

Because they are scared to say what they want to say. So they create an alt thinking it wont be traced back to them. But mostly to be a dick.

    • Johnson is very smart IMO. He will get paid either way but avoiding a terrible spot can save your career too. He looks to be working the system and good for him. I always thought hiring interviews go both ways and have been disappointed watching people not realize this. He handled DC roughly but it was also funny because he did see them as what they are which is a new ownership group, even with Petters, he would be likely be destined for failure there while they figure out the normal learning curve of the NFL.  It's not lying it's just 'your great but I can't say what your not because that is taboo'. Sometimes lies are expected if the truth isn't what they want.  I agree generally. Ron was doing great work as a DC where he put in 6 years as DC at 2 teams vs Canales 1 year as OC before becoming a HC. Ron is such a known quantity by now, he earned his 2nd shot as a HC and it went as expected given his proclivities. Offense is just safer in this NFL vs Defense so any one that can score will get a look. Ryans is a beast but how do you think he fairs without Slowick? Which HCs were in the SB? Offensive guys. It's a thing and makes laughing about TB, Atlanta and NO all having beatable defensive coaches the Panthers still can't beat LOL. It's a dump. If your building a career the Panthers are a long shot. If you are taking a shot, getting paid and/or ready to grow from this failure then this is a great option. I think the jobs are extremely valuable on many levels but there is always a turd in the punchbowl with Tepper. Hurney, Rhule, Friterer, now Caldwell and maybe Morgan. Tepper always leaves some dookie around to contaminate the next batch...they literally help him fug up the next time. It's Tepper's MO, spend lots of money and lean on past failures into new failures. There has not been a truly fresh start under Tepper yet which explains why he keeps failing.
    • yeah lol never say it can't get any worse with David Tepper in charge
    • I would talk poo about their qb room but I'd rather have Darnold and JJ competing for our QB spot than giving BY free reign with no pressure
