Confused Why Some Seem to Think We Got Fleeced

The problem is not what we gave up to get there.  The problem is who we chose with that selection.  Had we chosen Stroud, do you think this would even be a conversation?

This is Scott Fitterer in a nutshell. He’ll come up a fair deal based on market conditions and asset value or whatever but has no eye for scouting. It’s like having a finance algorithm as GM which is probably why Tepper has kept him around.

After one night's sleep, heres my feelings. In order to simplify I will use numbers instead of picks. Along with pointing out the here and now. Finally contracts.

Panthers got the rights to one pick, the first pick and most valued

1st- 2023

________________________________________________________________

Bears

9th- 2023

61st- 2023

DJ Moore- 2023-2025 team friendly control for 3 more years

14th- 2024 guessing on where the panthers finish

47th - 2025 ""

Looking at the "now" haul or 2023, man thats looking great for the bears *if you view DJ Moore as a solid #1(I do). Like others thats the sticking point for me and his conctract has 0 dead cap AND no more guarantees. What a bargain even if you view him as an "average" #2.

Speaking of team friendly contracts, it seems the QB market has gone insane again with the Carr, Jones, and Geno "one year wonder, Im still Geno" Smith. *If the panthers land top 12 level QB play, huge swing towards panther side. If panthers win now and keep winning onward to playoff runs, another huge swing for panthers.

The last factors are having a man like David Tepper as owner. Reports were in 2020 and until Watson got traded, he was telling folks at any cost watson would be a panther....then came his fully guaranteed 250 million demand..... Tepper stopped singing his tune. Now looking over the panthers TEs, RBs, and WRs................ given the trades of DJ Moore and CMC were needed and its leftd the weapons room empty....

I think this traded favors da bears.

But it's not one sided. Looking at recent history at the cost of trading up towards the top- Commies, Bears, 49ers, Rams, Eagles...they show its a higher cost to land the rights.....but I dont want to think about the results of their QBs......

Keep praying.........that CJ Stroud is the savior...

It doesn't matter to them, they dug into their "lets just roll with another retread QB for another season" hole so they would be against it no matter what.

Losing a first and two seconds will not set this team back even if the QB is a bust. And Moore's prime would be wasted anyway if they went with a retread QB. So yeah

ok i underestimated how bad it would get

They didn’t get fleeced. But trading Moore when you’re about to draft a rookie QB is not a good idea. Rookie QBs need good receivers and it’s gonna be tough to replace his production.

Checks response to this thread. Phew totally reasonable.

What Jordan Love is doing (which I didn’t think possible) should give everyone pause on throwing Young away.  Bryce can win in this league with help and confidence.  I would stash him the rest of this season, we aren’t helping his future right now

Well... For one thing Jordan love doesn't have a noodle arm and can actually throw a deep ball.

I honestly can't recall a quarterback that has ever looked this awful at throwing a deep ball with Bryce. We are not just talking missing on the deep throw, we are talking about missing by about 10 yards on deep throws...

This is so incredibly ridiculous.  This team has taken maybe 10 deep shots on the season.  They can’t do it.  The OL can’t hold up.  There is no WR that gets separation at all.  Chark could but he doesn’t care.  Silly

    • Bryce among the 7 players Mark Ross of NFL.com guarantees will get better this season. Today, I am identifying seven players who I guarantee will improve on their 2024 output in the 2025 season. Young took tremendous strides in 2024 after returning to the starting lineup in Week 8 following his benching. He looked far more comfortable in his return and produced with consistency, as he threw for 2,104 yards with 15 TDs and six INTs in the final 10 contests. Most important perhaps is Young's confidence grew immensely down the stretch, leading Carolina to either a game-tying or game-winning drive in six of those games. Now he enters his second season in Dave Canales' system with his best supporting cast to date. The Panthers drafted wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan eighth overall to pair with Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette, who I also believe is poised for a breakout campaign this fall. The 18th-ranked rushing attack from a year ago added Rico Dowdle to complement Chuba Hubbard, giving the team a pair of 1,000-yard rushers. The Panthers have taken the necessary steps to ensure Young's third season will be the best of his career, and now it's up to him to not only continue to grow as a player but prove why he was worthy of being taken No. 1 overall in 2023. I believe that's what he will do. https://www.nfl.com/news/which-nfl-players-will-improve-in-2025-c-j-stroud-deebo-samuel-among-guaranteed-risers
    • While it's fair to question how impactful a player's relationship with a coach is (especially if someone has questions regarding said coach), it's important to also evaluate the difference between the players here. Jordan Fuller was pick #199 in the 6th round while Justin Simmons was #98 in the 3rd round. Jordan Fuller might have gotten a Super Bowl ring while he was with the Rams, but he got it while on the IR. Justin Simmons, on the other hand, is a x2 Pro-Bowler (2020, 2023), x4 second-team All-Pro (2019, 2021 - 2023), and was the NFL co-leader in INTs (2022). Simmons has also fallen off in the last couple of seasons though, grade-wise. He very well might not be that same player, which could be why the Falcons have elected to replace him with Fuller. As far as getting the best out of what he has, asking him to produce with a starting DL of A'Shawn Robinson (63.56% of the defense's snaps), LaBryan Ray (51.48%), and Shy Tuttle (50.08%) isn't reasonable. Wonnum only played in 8 games, but had the second most % of snaps (37.27%) at EDGE behind Clowney (53.53%). The second-string DL based on snap % was... and don't read this if you just ate... Charles Harris (34.48%), DeShawn Williams (27.67%), and Nick Thurman (19.7%). The second-string EDGEs based on snap count would be DJ Johnson (32.27%) and Cam Gill (18.14%). With the investments made in the run defense this season though, especially on the defensive line, it's more than fair to demand a complete turn around from last season.
