There are quite a few Centers in free agency and C is pretty deep in the draft.  I think he will be signed for about $9m per by Friday.

I haven't checked on the available centers. Do you know if there is one available in free agency that is good as Bozeman?

I really hope we don't fug around trying to lowball him by a couple million and end up having him get jacked by another team. Missing a C is one of the worst spots to be missing on the OL in terms of on-field impact (not accounting for scarcity/replaceability) and we have a guard coming off a torn ACL; it wouldn't be shocking if Corbett struggled some early in the year just from rust caused by that long rehab period. If we have no C and have Corbett struggling it could lead to a lot of interior pressure which is the worst place to get pressured from (ask Tom) and could easily end up rattling a young QB's confidence especially when you factor in the state of our WR core.

Did Bozeman ever really excel at pass blocking though?  I know he is great at run blocking.

I wouldn't say excel but he doesn't really get beaten by a drum either, at least not from what I saw. That is a good point though that I hadn't considered. But the big thing that Bozeman has over Elfein from my POV is that it seems to me like he calls better protections at the LOS (way less free runners coming through it felt like when he was on the field vs Pat) and that he snaps the ball better. Much less botched/high snaps it seemed to me when he was under center.

I think he was ranked 26th in pass pro

This stat isn't the be all end all of course (interestingly enough he doesn't even appear on the chart for run block win rate which I was not expecting) but I'd be interested to see where you saw 26th. I dunno. From what I watched I don't really feel he was a bad pass blocker, but not really a great one either.

I would take Garrett Bradbury (28) from Minnesota over Bozeman, but Bozeman did play well for about a half season or so for us.  A former first rounder who had a decent season last year (injured late).  I think it is interesting that Pocic (Cleveland) also 28, just signed a three year, $18m deal--$6m per and he is rated higher than Bozeman. Going by that, the Panthers probably offered him $6 and he wanted $10-he is probably getting $6m.

I don’t pick and choose the facts that make me most comfortable like you’re doing.

Facts

Sources have expressed Panthers would like Boze to return.

Sources have mentioned Boze would like to stay.

The Bozemans appear to have a home in Nashville.

Tennessee released their starting center.

Fitterer has said we can’t resign everyone.

Despite having plenty of time to get a deal done prior to FA, there is no deal in place.

First, I noticed you deleted your first response.

Second,  Bozeman is signed.

So obviously,  I didn't pick and choose.

I stated the 2 strongest facts that supported the suggestion to stay calm, he's getting signed.

Thanks for playing.

    • Will be interesting to see how the Caps adjust. They were thoroughly beaten in this game despite it going to OT and they knew it by getting chippy. If they lose game 2 they’re in a hole they might not be able to dig themselves out of. They played old and tired tonight and I think they might get swept.
    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
