Why Bryce young will be the pick and we should be excited

Cam had no OL and he ran the football like a heat seeking missile.  Russell Wilson played the way you describe--at 204 pounds--and he missed 4 games in 11 seasons in Seattle.  Fitterer saw him do it.

Young’s actual playing weight is closer to 180 if I understand correctly. Wilson played at 205, so it is a huge difference. Maybe Young can play at 205, but if so, why didn’t he?

In fairness he has been injured every he’s played in the league

His playing style is more aggressive and what worked in high school and college for him (running) is probably not the ticket for a long NFL career.  I am interested to see what this new coach does with him.

The best reason to pick Young over Stroud?  If I were the GM, I would take Stroud.  I like Young a lot, but Stroud has done what was asked of him at a very high level, and he is accurate, smooth, and unflappable.  You can say the same for Young. So does this come down to processing and size?  If the processing is not clearly advantage Young, I'd go with Stroud.

For the Record, I am terrible at predicting success for NFL QBs.

You can look at my post history. Wanting us to trade up to pair Burrow with The OC we got from LSU.

Before the draft I became sold on Herbert.

I’ve always been anti Zach Wilson and Trey Lance. Obviously felt Lawrence would make a good pro and I wanted us to draft Fields, who I think takes a significant step forward passing the ball this season…

I wasn’t too concerned with QBs before that because we have had Cam on the roster.

Im not confident Young stays healthy for years in the NFL and when a smaller guy like him gets the legs dinged up a bit how elusive will he be in the pocket? It’s those minor dings that lead to the major ones.

Strouds been my pick since October on this message board and I’m confident the Carolina Panthers get better, faster, with CJ Stroud than we do with Young because we are going to have years where Young misses the bulk of the snaps due to injury.

Bryce young is obviously at least 30 pounds lighter than Wilson. Wilson plays at 215, he went up to 225 after injuries in 2017 and has to work/diet to play at 215. Completely different frames

Young's playing weight is 35 pounds lighter that Wilson. Wilson was mobile. Young is not particularly quick or mobile. Young's arm is average, at best. I pray that the Panthers do not draft Young.

So you are saying the Young played at 170 lbs?  That would mean that he gained 34 lbs between early January and early March.

I guess the better question is this:  Where is the line (weight) that determines a player is too small to play QB in the NFL?

I literally do not know, but I can say that QBs are babied now, protected like the Pope at a biker convention.  Since the QB started getting protected more, the smaller QBs have emerged.  The game has changed as well.  So if you teach a player to slide and check down quicky (which he can do) and throw it out of bounds, can you prolong his career?  Russell Wilson did that better than anyone, and he missed 4 games in 11 seasons in Seattle.

Young needs to add size--muscle weight and there seems to be room for it.

I prefer Stroud, but if we go with Young, I know we are getting a solid, smart, QB.

Think about this. Fitterer came from Seattle where he had Russell Wilson. He’s quite undersized and had an amazing Seattle career. If rumor is true Tepper likes Bryce Young as well, it just makes sense he will be the guy especially if he shows out at his pro day. The size thing. Y’all are overthinking it.

and why should we be excited? A Russell Wilson in his prime was fun to watch and Bryce young is a lot like him in my opinion. Our version of him could be even better. That will be must watch football. Let’s be honest all of you would take Prime Russell right now…

People are gonna call me crazy but hey. Check my last posts. I always get poo’d and yet I’m always right. I said last YEAR WE SHOULD TRADE CMC AND DJ MOORE for the highest capital possible because we just weren’t gonna get it done with them due to other circumstances. Called that. *shrugs*

Bryce young will be the pick.

No thanks. A Russell Wilson in his prime is looking more and more like a byproduct of Pete Carroll’s coaching ability.

Please don’t compare Bryce to Russ.

    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
    • Maybe faked was too strong of a word.  "Milked" may be the better way to call it.
