A CASE FOR DRAFTING HERBERT I MEAN LEVIS

While on YT watching film on all the qb's being discussed here I came across this

go to 39:15 mark.

That led me to go here. https://www.thepowderblues.com/forum/forum/los-angeles-chargers-forum-nfl-forum-padres-forum/charger-s-2017-draft-forum/748977-2020-nfl-draft-discussion/page7#post892712

That's when it got interesting, the similarities were astounding.

Bryce Young / Tua was on their minds

Joe Burrow / CJ Stroud was out of reach they were picking 6th

Jordon Love / AR was moving up the boards trough media hype

Herbert / Levis was a hard pass, do not want

Some quotes from their board:

Some heads will explode here if they were to pick Herbert here!

Hebert is very comparable to Paxon Lynch and other similar QB's who have awesome physical skills, but lack consistent accuracy, and intangibles so they usually are drafted high and are big busts in NFL......

Love may be in similar category, but at least he interviews better than herbert..... unfortunately neither of them ever played against a good defense like both Burrow and Tua have.....

Liars month. Everyone relax. And prepare yourself emotionally for when they take Herbert.

Hebert has a canon for an arm But throws almost every pass like a straight bullet pass in madden football..... when Hebert has a wide open receiver, he still throws a bullet instead of throwing a touch pass that allows receiver to adjust to the ball...... either he hits them with a strike or misses them badly..... bullet passes are needed for some plays against certain coverages, but when defense play zone, Hebert will have to loft the ball over defenders into soft spots in zone....... he did not do that in his bowl games or senior bowl...... and played primarily against bad defenses.... and almost all his completions were to open first reads...... he was horrible when first reads were covered.....

Can someone tell me that Herbert is a lot better than Stick or Taylor ?

Nope.

I don't want Herbert...too flat footed in the pocket and not accurate enough. Didn't give a darn about his Senior Bowl performance.

Herbert on Proday Launching Flatfooted 64 yards... Remember Levis pro day same thing,

I dont want Herbert but damn if he aint got a cannon.

Then there was one post saying it was their best off-season with F.A. ,new coach, new uniforms.

Like I said a lot of similarities today. I like to gamble, the draft is a gamble.... I'll take Young or Levis.

Oh there's also this....

Sweet jesus this is going to be a long 3 weeks.

Levis was a fine option at #9, once we made the trade up to #1 it became a 2 horse race.

Stop trying to make Levis or AR a possibility, it won't happen.

First off I think they should have stayed put, there is no clear number  1 qb.

Secondly I just made the thread to show how similar the two situations are and that you don't know who's going to do what.

    • I get it's subjective and I said "PFF rated him as" one of the top deep ball passers during that time, which is an accurate statement.  They are still a group of professionals that look at film and data in order to make their judgements/ratings.  These people whose data has been incorporated into a lot of teams' staffs view Bryce's deep throws as some of the best in the league during that stretch.  That tells me that he can probably throw a deep pass vs the Huddle's version of he is small and didn't do it his rookie year so he must not be able to.  That and literally seeing him do it just makes me feel he is more than capable of doing so.   Do you think PFF is skewing their opinion to prop up a QB in a bottom tier franchise?  It's just another group's opinion and I feel is pretty respected around the league currently.  It's not the gospel truth or anything.
    • I still remember how happy I was that gettlegut was not the GM once he picked Jones, that was a firing pick and well..... If not for the raiders drafting Clelin Ferrell, it was the biggest draft day mistake in the last 20 some years.
    • He had 251 passing yards. 3 passing touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns. All in all a very impressive game. Problem is I do not envision his rushing ability translating like that over the course of the upcoming season. Yeah it will be something to account for from time to time but one it's not sustainable and two you don't want to put his durability to the ultimate test against a motivated defender willing to take a penalty and a fine. And plus with our backfield. Two 1k yard rushers. That's what they're here for. Then we have a much improved WR room. That means Bryce has to elevate those passing numbers substantially. The fact of the matter is regardless of circumstances it did take him 23 games to surpass Kyle Allen's single season passing yardage from 13 games in 2020. And that is not a high bar by any means. Whatever QB tier Bryce ends up in from here amongst his peers this upcoming season when it's all said and done it will be with his arm.
