I really think the whole trade up scenario is a pipe dream by some people who would rather have Stroud.

Think this is a pretty good take on things

By this point and this late.  If they called up Houston, Houston is going to Know they probably aren’t taking the guy Houston wants, and that guy will be there at 2 anyways.  And they aren’t trading out of the top 2, so no threat of trading with someone else who will poach that guy.

Houston doesn’t seem to motivated to move up either.

I believe it was Sheena Quick and possibly Joe Person yesterday who said no one has even called to inquire/offer to move to 1.

Yeah - fair point.  At this point I'm truly fine with either.  I've gotten warmed up to the idea that it might be BY - so perhaps their strategy is actually working!  LOL

Touche, but I'm still calling BS on them being mostly 50/50 up to now. Everything I've seen has been more in line with the Huddle polls.

My point stands: CJ is the least controversial pick of the bunch. Saying that as someone who prefers Bryce. Most negative thing I've heard thrown at CJ is that he was surrounded by talent.

Stroud is an excellent QB and I would be happy to have him a Panther.   He does not walk on water.

His biggest knock is his 41% completion rate and 42 pff when under pressure, ranking 97th out of 144 QBs.   He's been called a statue in the pocket. Young's performance simply does not drop off anywhere near that far when under pressure.    If you think Stroud's pressure rate is going to stay the same as it was behind NFL lineman in the Big10, I would think again.

Read Stroud's other negatives here:

Just take the better QB at 1 and be done with it.

If I'm Houston, I would think it would be so easy to find out if it's just smoke. Inquire about a move up and if we indicate a willingness to consider it, it means that we *aren't* set on our guy as BY, which mean he will most likely be there at #2.

So the mere openness to negotiate, if the BY talk is smoke, gives away the charade, rendering any talks pointless - from the Texans' perspective.

I apologize in advance. From this point on every new one of these Mr Magoo says Panthers are drafting XYZ threads will garner the same response.

“Did Frank Reich say it? Did Scott Fitterer say it? Did Thomas Brown say it? Did Josh Mccown say it? Did Jim Caldwell say it? No? Then I don’t believe it.”

This has already been pointed out a million times

Which is why a trade makes zero sense

Anyone can change their mind if the price is right.  Panthers should take the call and simply ask Houston to make an offer.  If the offer makes the Panthers comfortable taking QB 1b, than accept the offer.

Houston may just want peace of mind and are willing to pay for it.  No mind games are necessary.

If Houston calls, and we seem even willing to move for the right price.

Then we don’t have conviction on the guy they want.  And Houston will know right away that their guy will be there at 2.

    • Thin sliced roast beef, provolone, and roasted bell peppers on a toasted sub roll.  At least one thing is going right today. I don't trust anyone who's never put Bugles on their fingertips to make witch fingers.
    • But yeh,  Bryce is the only problem on this sorry excuse of a team. You could put Tom Brady on this team and we would still suck . Worst part is Tepper and his various band of clowns have been trying to build a competitive team for 7 freaking years and are no closer now than when it all started.
    • Regardless of the trade and where he was picked, Bryce actively created deception. He wore a hoodie to the combine and was 15 lbs heavier because he packed on water weight because he didnt weigh near 200 lbs. He didn't participate in drills in a wide open 4 way, really 3, QB bid. Then there was all this hype over the S2 test that he had been practicing that we've never heard about in the draft process since. Does anyone think it was an accident Stroud's score on the S2 was released? Stroud said forget the score, watch his tape. Wonder why. There was a whole bunch of shady poo going on surrounding Bryce pre draft, and I for one, find it all a little too convenient.  Just my opinion, but he was a used car salesman that used some armor all and a wash n wax and maybe a set of white walls then schmoozed his way at dinner with Dave and Nicole and sold them that he was a super savant.  There was a whole lot of BS swirling around the BY hype train and he was a full fledged participant. Frank didn't want Bryce, he wanted Stroud. A new head coach does not pick a QB he has to go design a brand new offense around unless that guy is a generationaltalent, which Bryce was most definitely not. He picks the guy that best fits what he does and that was Stroud. This was Dave and Nicole's pick and they fuged this team like they've done over and over again since they've been here. They fell for use car salesman Rhule, then used car salesman Bryce and company. And the fans got stuck with the 4 years of payments on a car less reliable than Al Bundy's Dodge.
