If thats the case then I truly wonder how much say Reich really has.

i think he's got a lot of say in the decision and that's probably part of it. i mostly believe it when Fitt said that he hasn't talked to Reich about who his choice is and that they are trying to keep that to themselves until closer to the draft, but i don't well either of them would do in their conversations at keeping their thoughts close to their chests. they have to know which way the other is leaning without saying.

Fitt and the FO could be certain, but just to make sure they have the right guy could be waiting for Reich and his staff to confirm it or validate it further or poke significant holes.

i do think that also that they have a certain amount of wiggle room in the decision having 2 fantastic choices to pick from in Young and Stroud that even if they changed their minds about "their guy" that they would still feel good about that move to #1 overall.

Tepper did say he wants a QB and that alone kind of makes it look like he is possibly having an influence on who that pick may be when it is the HC, GM, and a few others that need to make that decision. after that  choice was made would then be presented before Tepper to see if he goes with it or not.

But if what person said was true in the fall, then the bryce pick was pretty much predetermined or at least very much weighted towards young.  LIke I wonder if hypothetically Reich says no thats not going to work over the long haul and stands by it.  Then I guess you have tepper stepping in.  Reich is going to be a team player for sure and not speak out but you have to assume his ass is pissed that he is not getting who he wants.  Of course he said last month "The best ability is availability" so he is at least acknowledging the overall issue of this.

Why are we automatically assuming that the person in the Fall was Tepper.

There were rumors Fitty loves Bryce.  He was here this fall.

Samir Suleiman is on record now saying he doesn’t have issue with the size, he was here this fall.

Dan Morgan has a history with Fitty and was in Seattle with him, he was here this fall.

if there is a difference in opinion as to who should be taken, then one side has to convince the other and both have to be open to being convinced otherwise.

But also I feel like this assumes that Reich didn’t also like Bryce (if that’s the pick) in the first place. I feel like it’s entirely possible that he liked Bryce too despite his reservations about his size and that everyone still has some semblance of alignment on who the guy is. I think Peter King in another article like last week or the week before said he said heard that Reich was telling people he liked Bryce back in the fall.

Idk though, just spitballing.

Reich's press conference answers have consistently said two things:

1) He has a very high opinion of Bryce Young's ability

2) He considers Bryce Young's durability to be a quite legitimate concern

both of those things are 100% true and I am not sure how you can convince an old school nfl guy to get over the fact young is 180ish.   I mean what data can you pull, what player can you compare him to etc that will make him change his mind?  In the end he may say fug it and gamble but that fear is real he said so himself

Both statements btw are completely valid to me.

Though if I’m being honest, while I do think the durability thing is legit, I’d be just as concerned if we drafted a AR type because I honestly think injury comes down to play style just as much if not more than stature. We’ve seen it first hand with Cam who was a mountain of a man.

Bryce is an outlier size wise for sure, but I just don’t think somebody will blow on him and he’ll be out for the year or something. Plus I’m sure they’ll continue to fortify the OL regardless of who the pick is and that’s important too.

If they already did decide on Bryce before Reich got here, that is indeed Not a good thing on surface. A big reason Reich is here is because he is a Offensive coach and a QB guru, you dont decide on something like this without his consideration. I dont know why this would be so hard for some to understand.

    • To all the analysts who said "Caps in 5", thank you for telling us their departure time.
    • We won't know the answer to this for a long time. Reality is, Caleb has been the consensus #1 in that draft for years. Bryce was a similar situation, but mostly the same. He was not the clear and obvious #1 that Caleb was, but most teams had Bryce at QB1. The Panthers were always going to be terrible Bryce's rookie year.  I don't think DJ Moore's presence would have changed anything about that offense, as our guards, center, and left tackle were getting demolished on nearly every snap. It's clear Caleb's dad was trying to do everything possible to ensure Caleb didn't end up in Chicago with Eberflus. It's hard to imagine that he wouldn't have done the same, but probably more publicly with our situation, considering Carolina is an easier target for the media than Chicago. We can all speculate, but it's impossible to tell who is going to have the better career on May 16, 2025. If either QB doesn't pan out, we have an easy answer. If both flame out, the bears clearly won the trade, but it wouldn't have really mattered anyway. We all know how we win the trade. Candidly, even if one of the other picks we gave up ends up being a hall of fame player, we don't know if the panthers would have taken that player anyway. All you can do is make the best decision you can in the moment with the information you have. I really like Bryce Young, and I'm glad he's a Carolina Panther.  The only way to win in the modern NFL is to have an absolute dude at QB. I personally am happy that our franchise recognizes this, as I remember times when they did not.
