Are we set at running back?

We have no home run threat on this offense and I don't trust Hubbard as our backup.  Staley & Brown have both referenced committee approaches and our starter has a Kareem Hunt-Browns level contract.

So from my vantage point, we are entirely in position to upgrade, but it's not a must.  We've met with Charbonnet, Kendre Miller & Zach Evans so it's entirely possible.

I could honestly see us landing ANY RB type in this group whether it be a hard-nosed runner like Roschon Johnson to compliment, an all-around like DeWayne McBride, or a home run threat like Abanikanda. Wouldn't be opposed to a Peoples or Tucker later.  Plenty of options.

Oh and Tyjae Spears is my pipe dream but I won't build expectations for him and get let down.  He's my fave in the draft by far.

Would love Roschon if he makes it to the 4th. Excellent complimentary back to Miles for the first year or two and could be a lowkey get that eventually becomes a 3-down back.

Yeah, I think he makes a lot of sense.  Could be a solid pickup at/around 114 or 132.  That's the optimal range with this RB class unless we REALLY like a guy.

My policy?  Never have a running back on a second contract.  I can say that I literally have never had a running back on a second contract in my life, so there's that.  treat RBs like college players--4 years and you are done.

I can't find the stats, but if you look at the data, second contracts hardly ever pay out in the NFL for RBs.

Smart teams wouldn't give Miles Sanders the biggest FA RB contract of 2023 and then invest one of their few draft picks on another RB. I think the whole point of giving Sanders that money was so we didn't need to worry about RB on draft day and focus on other higher value areas where we need more depth (WR, pass rusher, O line, CB, LB). Chuba and Blackshear are more than enough behind Sanders, but if you're not thrilled, throw an UDFA in the mix as camp competition. But any more than that is a misuse of limited resources.

I was surprised that Foreman went so cheap to Chicago.  I'd be surprised if our offer was less than that.

I wonder if he knew he'd be a number 2 here.

That could very well be the case that he felt like he deserved to be # one elsewhere.

However,  Foreman was a bruising RB, a type the Panthers will need to wear down the other teams defense even if it's in a backup role..

Agreed.  Use free agency if need be - draft picks are too valuable to spend one on a bottom of the roster guy at a position we are fairly set at.  I’d rather use those picks to add pass rushers, corners, line backers and backup OL.

    • Everyone. Just take a chill pill. It’s Cinco De Mayo. We didn’t get blown out or lose a close game(0-0 3rd overtime). We showed we have fight and beat them on 5v5 easily. Which shakes them more than us not being good on PK. Because everyone knows when we are slow we have bad faceoff goals on the PK.
