Panthers selected Florida State S Jammie Robinson with the No. 145 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Robinson (5’11/191) spent his first two seasons at South Carolina where he logged the majority of his reps in the slot to take advantage of his tenacity around the line of scrimmage and short-area mirroring ability. He thrived in the role, playing 670 recording 62 tackles and five PBU, and a scintillating 90.7 PFF tackling grade en route to receiving freshman All-SEC accolades. However, after HC Will Muschamp was replaced by current HC Shane Beamer, Robinson opted to transfer to Florida State for a fresh start. It was a prescient decision, with Robinson recording a gaudy 183 tackles, 12.0 TFL, 13 PBU, and five interceptions over his two seasons with the Noles, earning First-Team All-ACC recognition in each. His role changed last season, with the Second Team All-American logging 76% of his snaps at either free safety or in the box as opposed to his previously slot-heavy role. The move allowed Robinson to showcase his toughness near the line and notable ability to sift through traffic and bring down ball carriers, as his 7.3 career missed tackle rate backs up. He's pretty small for box work in the NFL and will likely put his 6.89 3-Cone (85th percentile) and 1.51 10-yard split (98th percentile) to use by harassing slot receivers as a versatile nickel back who can also drop back to single-high when called upon.

Better than this former Panther DB:

4.66s

Percentiles vs. Cornerbacks

40 Yard Dash 4.66s  4th percentile

Vertical Jump33"      13th percentile

Broad Jump124"        64th percentile

3-Cone Drill7.09s       21st percentile

Josh Norman everybody!!

Antonio Johnson is a far superior prospect. Is a below average pick, it’s not horrible just underwhelming.

he isnt a Fitt/Morgan type ....

His 1.55 10-yard split (86th%) shows the twitch he possesses, though his overall 4.78 RAS gives pause in relation to his overall athletic traits.

You really only need 90 players to make it through camp once nicks and bruises start to lead to missed training camp practices.

A team only keeps 53, which means a good 25-30 players on that 90 man roster have for all intents and purposes 0% chance of actually making the team. They are there to intrigue the coaching staff enough for a look at being on the practice squad and to get tape for other teams/leagues.

In short, 90 is an arbitrary number and it just allows enough bodies to ensure full practices during the summer.

The team is no better or worse for being or not being at that number

I like the looks of the backfield:

LCB: Donte Jackson - Eric Rowe
RCB: Jaycee Horn - C.J. Henderson - Keith Taylor Jr.
SS: Vonn Bell - Jeremy Chinn - Sam Franklin
FS: Xavier Woods - Jammie Robinson

DJax is the big X factor. If he can play close to before his injury then we should be good there. If he is a fraction of himself then CB is a weakness.

    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
    • Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
